Slippers
Price Range: $54–$129
Let’s slide into our list of zero waste gift ideas with a gift that’s shoe-in to be a Christmas favorite: sustainable slippers.
A pair of Kyrgies’* slippers will make the perfect sustainable gift for that eco-friendly someone in your life.
Their steppers are handcrafted by local fair trade artisans in Kyrgyzstan, using OEKO-Tex Certified ethical wool from mulesed-free sheep, and vegetable tanned leather. Any scrap felt left over from the shoe making process is reprocessed and reused. And, pre-loved pieces are saved from landfills via their resale platform.
With a non-slip leather sole and comfortable elastic stretch, the low waste lady in your life can step comfortably and confidently with these Women’s Tengries.
Meanwhile, Men’s Kyrgies make a great zero waste gift for men. The low back makes them easy to slip on and off, while the molded footbed provides incredible arch support.

Christmas Sweaters
Price Range: $168–$388
It’s no secret that ugly Christmas sweaters are about the least sustainable thing out there.
Avoid this out-of-touch fast fashion trend by opting for these beautiful sustainable sweaters instead.
From sourcing to creating, the Certified B Corp Outerknown has an environmental commitment that warms our hearts (and the rest of our bodies!)
Made from recycled organic cotton, their Hemisphere Sweater is a staple recycled holiday gift for any minimalist men’s wardrobe.
Or, via their online resale platform, OuterWorn, pre-owned pieces get the chance at another life. And, other materials that would otherwise go to the landfill, are recycled and repurposed via Project Vermont.
Pact’s pact to protect the environment also can’t go overlooked.
Their organic GOTS-certified cotton sweaters are created in a fair trade factory in India and come sans plastic packaging.
The eco-friendly Luxe Knit Boatneck Sweater is just what your sustainable loved one needs to support them through their winter Hallmark movie binges.
My Personal Review of Outerknown’s Shelter Waffle Henley:
“Crafted from merino wool and recycled cashmere, the Shelter Waffle Henley is incredibly soft and cozy, making it an ideal winter layer that’s both stylish and practical. I love wearing it on its own as a top layer or, on super cold outings, under one of their Blanket Shirts – whose durable and thick weave had me so obsessed that I own three and wear one literally every day at some point.”
Reviews by Christopher Ryan, SJ’s Menswear Tester
My Personal Review of Pact’s Knit Short Cardigan:
“The Knit Short Cardigan has basically become my ultimate cozy piece. I wear it for everything – popping to the garden to feed my quail in the early morning, as an extra layer when I’m going out for dinner, and just staying comfy while working from home. It’s so flexible, and even though it’s loose-knit, it’s been holding up way better than I expected. No frayed edges or pulled threads! This exact style is no longer available, but the Luxe Knit Cropped Cardigan is a close match and has the added advantage of buttons on the front.”

When it comes to zero waste gift ideas, Hario also has the drip (coffee makers, that is.)
Though, we’d rather highlight their dishwasher safe French Press. We’d recommend this one for those at-home eco-baristas who are new to brewing their own coffee, since it’s both simple to use and easy to clean.

Plan Toys also has a great selection of gifts made from recycled materials, including reclaimed rubber and upcycled sawdust.
All options are sustainably made in Thailand, though not every option is plastic-free. Recycled plastics are used less than 10% of the time, and only when it significantly enhances the performance of the toy.
If you are looking to reduce plastic waste completely, try to avoid their water building blocks.
If you’re overwhelmed by the options, we’d recommend browsing their award-winning products page.

In the way of kids’ zero waste Christmas gifts, clothing is about as useful and low impact as you can get.

Their ethically-made kids attire is crafted using some of our favorite fabrics like GOTS-certified organic cotton, TENCEL™ lyocell, and TENCEL™ modal.
‘Tis the season of green giving, with this adorable Christmas Tree Dress (or the fish print counterpart, which is just as cute.)
Firebird Kids features strictly organic cotton pieces perfect for little ones with sensitive skin.
When the kids outgrow their clothes (which they so often do), they can be sent on via their Pass It On platform.
We’ve already mentioned why we think sweaters are a great idea for adults, it only feels right to mention their Marled Organic Cotton Sweater for children, too.
Zero Waste Art Supplies
Price Range: $9–$19
Zero waste doesn’t necessarily mean zero mess.
For plastic-free gifts for kids that encourage creativity and stimulate the mind, eco-friendly art supplies are winners for both kid and parent.

To make it truly zero waste, consider giving gifts that aren’t things.

Zero Waste Books
Price Range: $7–$10
We would never suggest a zero waste gift idea that’s not technically zero waste; this is a strictly digital discussion.
Sure eBooks still require some sort of electronic reader, but it’s likely your giftee already has one of those (considering phones are reading compatible.)
With so many inspiring and informational zero waste books to choose from, your giftee stands to learn a lot about low waste living.
Erin Rhoads’ Waste Not focuses on simple and everyday ways you can reduce waste to live a zero waste lifestyle.
Meanwhile, Anne-Marie Bonneau’s Zero Waste Chef takes a bite out of food waste, one of the most prolific forms of household waste.
Donation On Their Behalf
Price Range: Buyer’s choice
The gift of charitable giving can be one of the most heart-warming non-physical gifts.
Who doesn’t like the feel-good realization that they’ve indirectly supported a good cause?
After all, non-physical gifts are even better when the contribution is to a cause they really care about.
If you don’t have any specific ones in mind, use a flexible donation platform—like MyCause Australia and Global Giving.
Zero Waste Clothing
Price Range: $43–$117
Your loved one may largely stick to a thrifted or minimalist wardrobe, but that doesn’t mean they won’t enjoy some occasional, consciously-chosen clothing.
With sustainable materials, ethical sourcing, carbon offsets, and conscious packaging, Hernest Project has everything we look for in a zero waste fashion brand.
Their Ada Reset Top is one of our favorite cozy wardrobe additions.
The luxury fashion brand, Malaika New York, is another one of our favorite sustainable fashion lines selling high-quality pieces designed to last. By utilizing zero waste patterns, the brand ensures that the least amount of materials are wasted. Compared to the industry average of 30%, their waste is minimized to 7%-20%.
This black cotton Hexagon t-shirt is the perfect for year-round layering.
My Personal Review of Hernest Project’s Ada RESET Button-Down Sleep and Lounge Top:
“I tested the Ada RESET button-down top, and it was love at first nap! The boxy fit is just right—flattering and flowy without wrapping me up like a burrito when I sleep. Plus, the fabric is ultra-soft and a bit heavier than your typical PJs, which means it’s built to last. After a whole year, there’s a smidge of pilling, but otherwise, it’s still in great condition.”

Zero Waste Makeup
Price Range: $15–$240

It’s a good thing that getting glam on that special day is still possible, thanks to zero waste makeup brands with these plastic-free gifts for her.
If you know your friend or family member’s best color, try the 3-in-1 Balmies from Axiology.

Organic Accessories
Price Range: $13–$198
No matter what your giftee’s bag is, quality sustainable accessories make for some of the best gifts for zero wasters.
And what zero waster doesn’t love a good reusable bag?
The cork and linen handbags and wallets from Carry Courage aren’t just minimalist-chic; they’re also plastic-free. The extra special cork is harvested from trees in sustainable forests that never need to be cut down.
Needless to say, the Advocate Zipper Tote is a plastic-free Christmas gift we’re advocating for.
Now, the only obstacle left is finding that ever-elusive hair tie.
KOOSHOO’s Fair Trade organic cotton and natural rubber hairbands and scrunchies make for delightful stocking fillers. They are biodegradable—bringing less guilt when they inevitably break or go missing.
My Personal Review of Carry Courage’s ADVOCATE Tote:
“I love the ADVOCATE Tote; it has become one of my favorite bags. The cork material looks stylish and is easy to clean, so I don’t stress about setting it down on dirty surfaces. I take it to the farmer’s market every weekend during the season because its roomy interior is perfect for filling with fresh produce.”

Zero Waste Candles
Price Range: $12–$123
Sustainable candles are a surefire (get it?) gift for just about any occasion.
Siblings takes this plastic-free gift idea to the next level with their refillable candles made from coconut oil wax refills.
Housed in a compostable bag, the powder simply needs to be heated and filled in whatever upcycled container is on hand. Or, in the functional ceramic candle vessel that comes with the Starter Set.
Crafted from local organic beeswax and pure essential oils beEsom candles offer great pre-made options (in 17 scents!)
Many of which come pillar style, though we prefer these glass terrain ones. Once burned, the recycled glass jars can be upcycled into eco-friendly planters.
Zero Waste Beauty
Price Range: $4–$237
Zero waste skincare products are undoubtedly some of the best zero waste gifts for mom.
And Butter Me Up Organics undoubtedly makes some of the best skincare products on the market.
The 5-star Etsy shop uses only natural ingredients and absolutely zero plastic (at their own cost.) Designed to cleanse the face without stripping oils, their Face Cleanser Bar is a self-care essential for that matriarch lacking moisture.
Post cleansing, Ethique’s Perfector Bar offers moisturizers that are deeply nourishing, designed to protect skin against trans-epidermal water loss.
My Personal Review of Butter Me Up Organics’ Facial Cleansing Bar:
“I tried out the Facial Cleansing Bar made with French green sea clay, and I have to say I’m impressed. I usually only use plain water for face washing as anything else tends to dry my skin out too much, but the clay in this does a great job of drawing out oils and impurities without drying my skin.”

Wine & Chocolate
Price Range: $4–$70
When it comes to gifts that don’t take up space, there’s nothing like consumable gifts to sweeten up your stocking.
Winc’s wine subscription box is one of those gifts that keep giving (so long as it doesn’t actually spoil someone’s New Year’s resolutions).
Every month, your loved one will be surprised with a curated selection of top-rated wines from around the world. Could that ever be a pour gift decision?
Of course, you can’t properly enjoy a bottle of Pinot Noir without chocolate.
The Raw Chocolate Co. stocks affordable zero waste gift ideas packaged in pretty little plant based films and compostable bags.
While they don’t have a sustainable subscription box, they do have Chocolate Hampers with enough chocolate to last a year (for those with strong willpower.)
Upcycled Homewares
Price Range: $4–$30
Looking for gifts made from recycled materials?
Always the Adventure fits the bill as snugly as their Recycled Climbing Rope Can Cozies safely cradle a can of kombucha or organic beer.
Not only are they 100% made of retired climbing ropes, but they’re hand-scrubbed using natural soap and shipped carbon-neutral in repurposed packing materials.
With limited runs and ever-changing colors, these make for some truly unique upcycled gifts, especially for the climber or outdoor adventurer in your life. If you’d like a cozie for something other than a standard-size can, reach out about their custom options for personalized zero waste gift ideas.
If cans aren’t your giftee’s thing at all, but recycled presents are, opt for one of their storage caddies, bowls, coasters, or dog leashes.
Zero Waste Shoes
Price Range:$85–$159
There’s nothing easier to wrap than a shoebox, and there are few more sustainable gifts for him than sustainable sneakers.
Thousand Fell makes the best green recycled gifts for eco-friendly fellas out there—AKA shoes made from recycled plastic bottles and food waste.
When your loved one sends their used circular steppers back, they will receive a $20 discount on their next pair, via the brand’s recycling program.
The Lace Up Sneakers featuring recycled PET laces are just what that sustainable skater in your life needs.
The green gifts from Cariuma are made from a number of sustainable materials, including organic cotton, rubber, bamboo, sugarcane, leather, cork, and recycled content (PET, nylon, paper.)
Both free from waste and carbon waste, a pair of trees are planted with every pair of sneakers purchased. For zero waste gifts UK style, the Grey Canvas low sneakers are deemed a London favorite.
My Personal Review of Thousand Fells’ Lace-Up:
“The Lace-Up is your classic skate-style sneaker, except that it feels SO supportive. Say goodbye to flat, uncomfortable sneakers with the molded footbeds and overall foot-hugging design of these shoes. I’ve worn them all day on my feet and walked away (pardon the pun) without any footache whatsoever. So even though I haven’t had them that long, we’ll believe Thousand Fell’s claim that they’re good for 2.4 million steps.”

Coffee Mugs & Water Bottles
Price Range: $10–$125
Dads are notoriously tough to buy for, so what are the best zero waste gifts for dad?
How about the means to that sweet, caffeinated nectar that gets him up in the morning so he can do all he does for you?
We’re talking about zero waste coffee of course, and a sustainable coffee mug for that on the go cup of joe.
The colorful and insulated options from Klean Kanteen do more than help keep our planet clean of plastic. They also keep drinks hot or cold all day.
The family run Certified B Corp makes 95% of their products using recycled stainless steel, and Climate Lock vacuum insulation. Though they are well-known for their water bottles, their insulated tumblers are also steaming hot picks.
Speaking of well-known, Hydro Flask makes some of the best reusable water bottles and coffee canisters on the market.
With the option for customization, all options can be turned into personalized reusable gifts. If someone you know likes their espresso before their Prosecco, give the 24 oz coffee mug a shot.
My Personal Review of Hydro Flask’s 32 Oz Wide Flex Straw Cap Water Bottle:
“Hydro Flask bottles have been my trusty companions for the past ten years. I just upgraded to a wide mouth with a flex straw cap, and I love how easy it is to sip from. They’re pretty much unbreakable—unless a landscaping truck runs over one (RIP my first). Just be careful with packing it in your backpack as it’s not as leak-tight as the regular caps.”
My Personal Review of Klean Kanteen’s TKWide Water Bottle:
“Klean Kanteen’s water bottles are impressively crafted. They use recycled stainless steel that is notably tough, and the textured powder coating gives me a better grip, reducing the likelihood of drops. So far, this bottle has shown far fewer dents than my other ones”.

S(h)ave the planet with the cutting-edge minimalist gifts for him and her: safety razors.
Leaf Shave carries an unbe-leaf-able selection of plastic-free gift ideas.
Equipped with a shaving soap bar and shaving oil, the Everything Bundle has almost everything needed to get rid of that itchy stubble.
My Personal Review of Leaf’s Leaf Kit:
“If you’re not keen on ditching your modern razor just yet, Leaf’s got the perfect solution. Their reusable pivoting head razor keeps all the best bits—multiple blades and a spring-loaded head—without all the disposable plastic. I found it super easy to use, even for those awkward spots like the inside of my armpits. Plus, it left my skin feeling great, no razor burn in sight.”

Low Waste Camping Gear
Price Rage: $60–$650
The best plastic-free gifts not only don’t pollute nature, but also help someone enjoy it.
While the outdoor industry is still playing catch-up in terms of sustainability (ironically), there are still brands working for mor eco-friendly camping gear.
NEMO is committed to cutting their carbon emissions in half by introducing 100% recyclable products.
One of the first of many eco-products, their 100% recyclable Forte Endless Promise Sleeping Bag is crafted from recycled liner and PCR-recycled insulation.
Kammok is also making great strides to create more recycled Christmas gifts
The 1% For The Planet members opt for stronger fabrics, cleaner chemicals, and recycled materials. Their Mantis All-in-One converts between a tent and a hammock, the body of which is 100% recycled and bluesign® approved.
My Personal Review of NEMO’s Forte Endless Promise Sleeping Bag:
“I recently tried the NEMO Forte Endless Promise sleeping bag, and I’m thoroughly impressed! Normally, I’m a down sleeping bag purist, but this bag might certainly sway me. The smooth exterior fabric feels luxurious and comfortable against the skin, which is a huge plus when you’re camping. Despite being synthetic rather than down, the high loft provides exceptional warmth and insulation. I’ve tested it down to just about freezing temperatures at night and slept comfortably, despite notoriously sleeping cold in a tent.”

Wallets
Price Range: $30–$103
Reusable gifts never go out of style—which is why you can’t go wrong with something as timeless as a daily-used sustainable wallet.
Casupo’s LA-made reclaimed vegetable-tanned leather wallets and card sleeves are just what your loved one needs for their sustainable spending spree.
Their RFID Wallet For Men, especially.
If something vegan fits their ethical demands better, Pixie Mood has a similar RFID blocking wallet made from recycled bottles and vegan leather.
My Personal Review of Pixie Mood’s Jane 2-in-1 Crossbody:
“The Jane 2-in-1 Crossbody is a total game changer! I love how it combines the functionality of a wallet and a mini purse. If I only need my wallet, it’s easy to unclip and the magnetic closure keeps everything secure when attached. Plus, the faux nubuck leather looks adorable and pairs effortlessly with any outfit, all while avoiding the ethical concerns tied to genuine leather.”
Review by Amber McDaniel, SJ’s Head of Content
I love the idea of giving a subscription box. This is such a great idea for friends who live sustainably and like to receive something sustainable but don’t know what they want. This way it is a surprise for both the giver and receiver.
This is such a great list – something for everyone! I love sustainable gift giving and find the consumerism of gift giving season difficult. My daughter gets so many gifts, I’ve had to tell people to stop giving her ‘stuff’, it just ends up as clutter. She doesn’t need so many things but they get offended, maybe now I can offer an alternative.
WOW! Great article. Can I recommend checking plantable pencils, as well, that are made from 100% recycled newspapers, They are designed to include chili, tomato, coriander, mustard, or fenugreek seeds. Once the seed pencils become too short for use, they can can be planted in soil along with water and sunlight, to sprout into a plant.
Thank Jad, great idea for a gift! Might be the same as Sprout World? If so – we cover them here
Very helpful and insightful. I talk about these often but will come back to this list. Thanks.
Waooo, thank you so much for these awesome gift ideas. I have picked two of these ideas for me.
Good blog post, by the way.
So happy to hear these ideas were helpful!
