Rating Summary

Nature & Animals

Plaine Products is certified vegan and cruelty-free by PETA and Leaping Bunny. Its products are also free from GMOs, palm oil, synthetic fragrances, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, and silicones. All ingredients are fully biodegradable, and some are certified, such as aloe, which is certified by the International Aloe Science Council (IASC). All of the brand’s packaging is designed to be reusable or recyclable. The aluminum bottles can be easily recycled (curbside) or returned to Plaine Products for refill and reuse. Optional plastic pump tops are intended to be reused from one bottle to the next. Waste is tracked at the brand’s warehouse, and supply chain waste is reduced through on-site bottling, recycling, and the use of recyclable label backing. Surplus products are donated to local charities. Orders are shipped plastic free in recycled cardboard boxes custom-fitted to the bottles to minimize packaging. Customers are encouraged to reuse these boxes to return empty bottles for refills, which Plaine Products then reuses to fulfill new orders. The brand renovated an existing building for its new warehouse, outfitting it with high-efficiency heaters, AC systems, and LED lighting. However, there are currently no official targets or tracking systems for energy efficiency, water usage, or wastewater. Water consumption is minimized by designing concentrated products. Although Plaine Products has not yet set formal carbon reduction goals, it offsets transportation emissions through WeAreNeutral and is participating in a B Corp course focused on carbon reduction and emissions tracking.

Reviews & Testing From Our Team

Plaine Products Shampoo & Conditioner Review - Image by Sustainable Jungle
Plaine Products Shampoo & Conditioner

I tested a bottle of both the shampoo and conditioner and could not fault them. The aloe is so soothing and my hair felt very clean after washing. The conditioner is silky smooth and really felt like it's soaking into even the harder to reach spots in my mop of thick and wavy hair. Afterwards, I've been letting my hair dry naturally and this combo does not make me look super frizzy which is a win.

Plaine Products Body Lotion Review - Image by Sustainable Jungle
Plaine Products Body Lotion

This lotion is made with organic aloe, safflower oil, and rosehip oil, so it really hydrates, and because it’s lightweight and spreads easily, a little goes a long way. What I appreciate most, though, is how fast it absorbs—no greasy or sticky feeling afterward. I can’t stand that oily residue some lotions leave, so this is appreciated.
