Nature & Animals

90% of Organic Basics’ line is made with GOTS certified organic cotton, with 2% of materials considered unsustainable (namely elastane). 4% of garments are made with FSC-certified Lenzing semi-synthetics and 4% from recycled nylon. All suppliers must comply with GOTS and GRS standards. Most products are PETA-approved vegan, except for discontinued recycled wool/cashmere products. Some capsule items feature algae-based dyes that reduce water use in dyeing by 98%. The brand is working with Made2Flow to conduct Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) of their products and to reduce water impact, but no water reduction targets are disclosed. Supplier onboarding includes managing and reducing water and wastewater risks, along with Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) requirements for all factories. Their tree-based fibers are FSC-certified. Packaging includes recycled cardboard boxes, FSC-certified compostable glassine bags and organic cotton hang tags that reduce emissions by 30%. Organic Basics is Carbon Neutral. Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions are calculated through One Carbon World and clear targets and commitments are in place to further reduce emissions. The brand focuses on reducing transportation emissions by primarily sending products by sea. They track waste and have a committed time-bound plan to reduce it along the supply chain, though there are minimal achievements so far toward circular strategies and energy efficiency.

Reviews & Testing From Our Team

True Knit Wide Leg Pants

These dreamy pants are made from 100% GOTS Certified organic cotton forming a thick knitted fabric. They can be worn higher or lower on the hips and suit a range of tops, making them a good staple in a capsule wardrobe. They are comfortable enough to live in as house pants but also look great on and perfectly suitable for wearing out and about. I love the texture, how soft they are and how they sit. I would probably select a darker color if I had my time over as on day one of testing, my toddler’s tomato paste laden hands made a beeline for these gorgeous pants! They’re also a little long for my shorter 5’2 frame which is easily remedied by having them taken up.

Core Trunks

As a passionate fan of soft things, these trunks tick all my boxes. They are ultra soft and smooth on the skin and very comfortable to wear with no digging in from the elastic. Clearly well made, I expect these to last a long time. The sizing is accurate (I’m a standard size M) and very snug in all the right places - Joy agrees ;)
