Rating Summary

Nature & Animals

Plastno’s waste bags are made from renewable, non-GMO cornstarch, Polylactic Acid (PLA), and Polybutylene Adipate Terephthalate (PBAT) and are certified compostable (in an industrial facility) by BPI and TUV. While PBAT is currently necessary for durability, a small percentage is fossil fuel-derived, though the mix used by Plastno reduces the impact and the product is still compostable. Sponges and cloths are made from plant cellulose, natural loofah, and/or cotton and are compostable at the end of life. The refillable cleaner tablet uses naturally derived ingredients, and the optional reusable spray bottle is made from recyclable PET.

All product and shipping packaging is plastic-free, made from FSC-certified paper, and printed without petroleum-based dyes (including the wrapper for the cleaner tablets). Products ship directly in the shipping box with minimal packaging overall. The brand reuses, recycles, and composts most office and warehouse waste—including supplier packaging—though waste is not formally tracked.

Shipping is carbon neutral with transparent tracking statistics, and efforts are underway to reduce shipping emissions between manufacturers and the distribution center. Offices utilize LED lighting and energy-efficient furnace and AC systems.

Waterless cleaning tablets help reduce water use. FSC-certified paper packaging helps address deforestation, and Plastno avoids many harmful or unnecessary chemicals, especially in its refill tablets and sponges. However, as yet, no commitments, targets, or tracking are in place for water use and management, chemical use and management, and biodiversity impact.

Plastno is a 100% vegan brand with a clear no animal testing policy covering all stages of the supply chain. Their multi-surface cleaner is Leaping Bunny Certified.

Communities & Wellbeing

Plastno is a minority-owned and managed business currently run by a husband-and-wife team—it’s only direct employees. Plastno works closely with carefully vetted manufacturing partners certified by BSCI. Before partnering with any supplier, the brand conducts its own due diligence—reviewing audit reports or factory inspection summaries, requesting visual documentation of factory conditions, and holding interviews to assess labor practices, including policies on forced and child labor. They have been working with the same suppliers since their inception in part due to the transparency and focus on sustainability. However, the brand does not currently have a formal Supplier Code of Conduct in place.

Plastno’s cleaning tablets are newly launched and not yet certified, but all products are naturally formulated and free from petroleum, BPA, silicone, pthalates, sulfates, GMOs, ammonia, parabens, chlorine, phosphates, VOCs, and all other endocrine-disrupting chemicals. An adequate privacy policy is in place to protect customer data.

Plastno supports other small businesses where possible, collaborating with like-minded brands such as Plastic Detox. Their products are currently sold through sustainability-focused small retailers rather than large retailers.

Additionally, they are building a community through their app, Plastnofy to encourage behavior change.

Reviews & Testing From Our Team

Waste Bags

I’ve been using these Plastno tall waste bags for compostable waste only, and so far they’ve held up really well—definitely sturdier than a lot of other compostable bags I’ve tried. I love that they’re certified home compostable, which gives me more confidence in tossing them into my backyard tumblers. I haven’t been using them long enough to say how well they’ll break down, but I’ll definitely update once I see how they do over time.

Multi-cleaner Tablet

I’ve been using the Plastno Multi-Cleaner tablets in their reusable spray bottle and honestly, dropping one into warm water and waiting for it to dissolve feels like a mini science experiment. It tackles grease and grime on countertops and stovetops without any harsh chemicals or artificial scent. In fact, the scent is very subtle, period, so fear not if you don't like strong scents. Plus, I love that it's plant- and mineral‑based, and only has a tiny bit of waste from the tablet packaging for a big bottle of cleaner.
