When it comes to clothing, choosing where you shop can be just as important as what you buy. Supporting the best sustainable clothing brands means backing a system that values people (including yourself) and the planet.
That’s exactly what we’ve curated in this list: brands that prioritize responsible materials, ethical labor, supply chain transparency, and sustainable packaging, all while reducing the industry’s staggering environmental footprint. The fashion industry is one of the biggest global polluters, generating more emissions than international flights and shipping combined. The good news is that these brands are rethinking how clothing is made, dyed, and delivered, proving that style and sustainability can go hand in hand.
This list reflects hours of trying on, scanning tags, reading impact reports, and digging through certifications to separate genuine progress from greenwashing. Each brand featured here meets our sustainable fashion criteria, from clean materials and fair labor to circular design and reduced carbon impact. For rated brands, our Sustainable Jungle Brand Rating System goes even deeper, assessing factors like water use, energy efficiency, product performance, and chemical safety.
Keep an eye out for rated brands below (they’re ordered based on their rating score). And for even more, visit our Sustainable Brand Directory.

My Personal Review Of The Very Good Bra’s Clothing:
“I own a bra and pair of regular briefs made from Tencel in black. I love this set, they’re extremely soft and comfortable on. The bra is adjustable and sits just right (it has no padding but you can now buy padding separately from TVGB). I use the briefs to sleep in because they are so deliciously soft and comfortable but I do find they ride up a bit when I use them for day-to-day running around, so next time I’d opt for TVGB’s ‘Very Big Knickers’ instead.”

My Personal Review Of Passion Lilie’s Viva Floral Organic Dress:
“This organic cotton dress is seriously soft and beautifully breezy and cool. It’s perfect for staying comfy in the heat, and the bold salmon color adds a fun pop of color to my summer wardrobe. I adore the wrap style of Passion Lillie’s Coastal Organic Dress, but this one is a super close second, being similar in cut and overall style, just minus the wrap.”

My Personal Review Of Magic Linen’s TOSCANA linen dress:
“This dress became a bit of a sensation after it was spotted on Meghan Markle and I have to say it does not disappoint! I’ve had it for a few years now and love it’s timeless design, loose fit (while still being elegant), and POCKETS! It runs a little large so I do wish I sized down but it’s so very comfortable, wearing it a little large doesn’t matter.”

My Personal Review Of Organic Basics’ Clothing:
“I’ve been trying out a bunch of pieces from Organic Basics, including the True Knit Wide Leg Pants, Flex Tee, True Knit Cardigan, Core Triangle Bralette, Core Rib Briefs, True Boxy Tee, Tennis Socks, and the Long Sleeve. Overall, I really like the looser-fitting items (the Boxy Tee and Long Sleeve Tee in particular—they’re super comfy). The Core Rib Briefs are a bit of a fave given their comfort, style and fun color. I really love the look of True Knit Cardigan but find it a little too tight (I get it’s supposed to fit like that but it’s not quite for me – I wish I had sized up) – same for the Flex Tee.”

My Personal Review Of Paka’s Clothing:
“I have been testing Paka’s hoodie, socks and thermals. Lyall has been wearing the “Original Crew” pretty much non-stop for months now. We both love these items of clothing. The sweaters are ultra soft and light – and are pretty versatile. The socks are warm and comfortable, and don’t smell after wear which is impressive. The thermals are super warm though I’m yet to test in very cold weather – they do have a bit of an itch when directly on the skin which I’m hoping will lessen with washing (which I’m yet to do as these just don’t seem to get smelly).”

My Personal Review of Maylyn & Co.’s Blueporium Slip:
“In Maylyn & Co’s words, “It all began with skin sensitivity to synthetic materials used in clothes. The feeling of being stuck in the fabric.” Been there! That’s why I fell in love (and into bed) quickly with the Blueporium Sleepwear chemise I got to try. I’m normally a casual lingerie wearer, so I really appreciate how it’s sexy and flirty while still providing all the essential comfort and coverage. Plus, this vegan silk feels delightful on the skin. It’s just like real silk—but without the ethical implications (silk) worming their way into my conscience.”

My Personal Review of JulieMay’s Clothing
“I have been testing a few of JulieMay’s pieces including a bralette, underwear, and an underwire bra. I’m less of an underwire girl myself but I can see the appeal! I am a huge fan of the bralette which is both sexy and comfortable somehow. The underwear hits a similar note of making one feel sexy without the discomfort. My mom has also been testing one of their bras and absolutely loves it, says it’s the most comfortable, yet feminine bra she has ever owned.”

Boody
Materials: FSC, OEKO-TEX, and Ecocert-certified organic bamboo.
Transparency & labor practices: The organic bamboo is produced using a sustainable closed-loop process that uses non-toxic solvents and recycles all water usage. Workers are paid fair wages and no fabric is wasted.
Why we love them: One of the best sustainable clothing brands that Australia offers (available worldwide). Most of the bamboo fabric we see today isn’t that sustainable, but thanks to their unique closed-loop process, Boody’s is!
Product range: Affordable clothing, minimalist men’s clothing, yoga clothes, organic bras and underwear, bamboo socks, activewear, leggings, and bodysuits.
Price: $-$$
My Personal Review of Boody’s Clothing
“I’ve owned several Boody items for years and years (I’m talking something like 6-7 years) including pajamas, underwear, and tees. Their clothing is incredibly soft and very comfortable to sleep in. The underwear is my go to for being active (not sexy at all but extremely practical) but I do acknowledge that their underwear includes 15% nylon which is likely what holds it so well in place so I try not to wear these overnight.”

tentree
Materials: High percentages of organic cotton, hemp, TENCEL™, and REPREVE® recycled polyester.
Transparency & labor practices: Have a transparent website with a full factory ledger and relevant industry certifications. Suppliers and factories are held to an ethical Code of Conduct.
Why we love them: This certified B-Corp plants no less than ten trees for every product sold in areas of damaged biodiversity.
Product range: Arguably the best Canadian sustainable fashion brand for sweaters, tops, hoodies, tees, hats, and accessories (think gloves and wallets) for women, men and kids.
Price: $-$$
My Personal Review of tentree’s Clothing
“I’ve been wearing a tentree hoodie and underwear for several years. The underwear was really solid, super soft, and lasted for well over two years. The fit was just right (I’m a standard size M). The hoodie is very good quality, has maintained its softness over two years of washing and intense wearing. The fabric feels premium and high quality. It’s my go-to for wearing around the home (which is all the time because I work from home).”

“Outerknown created my all-time favorite piece – the Blanket Shirt. It’s made from 100% organic cotton that’s super thick, plus the corozo nut buttons are biodegradable. I’m blown away by how cozy this flannel is – I couldn’t resist getting three, and I wear them every time I need an extra layer.”
Review by Christopher Ryan, SJ’s Menswear Tester
Subset
Materials: GOTS-certified cotton, dyed with OEKO-TEX approved dyes.
Supply chain & labor practices: Keep their transparent supply chain localized to India by sourcing all organic cotton in Ahmedabad and spinning and making the products in an organic fair trade factory in Tamil Nadu.
Why we love them: Subset’s program accepts old intimates (from any brand) and recycles them into new materials. Participation earns a free pair of undies! Did we mention we own several pairs and love the fit and feel?!
Product range: Underwear.
Price: $-$$
My Personal Review of Subset’s Clothing:
“I swear by Subset undies; the fabric is smooth and breathable, and it still feels amazing after repeated washes. The waist sits higher (but not too high), giving my tummy a little extra tuck, and I love the thoughtful touches, like the organic cotton-wrapped elastic hems on both the waist and legs, which make the fit so smooth and pinch-free.”

Toad&Co
Materials: Organic cotton, Lenzing modal and lyocell, RWS-certified wool, hemp, and recycled materials.

Product range: Affordable outdoor clothing for men and women including t-shirts and other basics.
Price: $-$$
My Personal Review of Toad&Co’s Clothing:
“So, I got this sweater because my partner’s from Butte, a tough little mining town, and we make regular trips to see her family there. This crew sweater totally keeps up with the rugged vibe. It’s comfy, cozy, and built to last. I’ve been wearing it for nearly a year, and it still looks great with no fuzz or pilling.”
Review by Chris Ryan, SJ’s Menswear Tester
Allbirds

Product range: footwear including sneakers, slippers, running shoes and casual slip-ons. Basics like t-shirts, socks and hats.
Price: $-$$
My Personal Review of Allbirds’ Clothing
“In their shoe range, I have tried Allbirds’ classic Wool Runners, Tree Breezers (flats), Tree Flyers (their version of sustainable running shoes). All have been excellent quality and lasted years. The Wool Runners in particular I must have bought almost 10 years ago and they’re still going strong (although I admittedly now mostly use them for gardening). I’ve also tried their clothing ranges over the years, none of which is still available today but in general I’ve found them to be very good quality.”

Coyuchi
Materials: GOTS and MADE SAFE-certified cotton, GRS-certified recycled cotton, Climate Beneficial wool, and organic linen.
Transparency & labor practices: Partner with India’s Chetna Coalition for organic farming. Coyuchi uses certified manufacturing partners with makers supported through a worker-managed Community Development Fund.
Why we love them: Pioneering regenerative agriculture, Coyuchi donates to the White Buffalo Land Trust and Fibershed. Their circularity-minded 2nd Home Take Back program recycles old Coyuchi linens.
Product range: Robes, pajamas, baby blankets, fair trade blankets, shower curtains, towels, organic mattress protectors, linen sheets, and other eco-friendly bedding.
Price: $-$$
My Personal Review of Coyuchi’s Adriatic Robe:
“Coyuchi’s Adriatic Robe, made from organic cotton, is soft and durable, and its textured weave adds a touch of luxury. I love how breathable it is. It’s ideal for wrapping up after a shower, even on warm days, as it keeps me cozy without feeling too hot.”

My Personal Review of Patagonia’s Clothing:
“I can honestly say the Fleetwith Romper, which is Fair Trade sewn from recycled polyester, is my number one favorite piece of clothing. It’s super stretchy, making it practical for all kinds of activities, and features a lightweight, ultra-comfortable crossover tank design. I love it so much that I picked up a secondhand one on Worn Wear when my original began to show some age. I now use the older one for art projects and the new one when I need to look a bit more presentable.”

Why Choose Sustainable Clothing Brands?
Here are three good reasons to support sustainable, ethical, and eco-friendly clothing brands:
- The fashion industry is one of the world’s biggest polluters and according to McKinsey greenhouse gas emissions from the production of textiles is 1.2 billion tons a year – more than the total of international flights and maritime ships. Better brands work to lower that impact through cleaner materials, better dyeing processes, and less wasteful production.
- The fashion industry relies on exploitative labor. Many mainstream brands source from factories where workers face unsafe conditions and unfair wages. Brands on this list commit to safe working environments, fair pay, and transparency across their supply chains.
- Eco-friendly clothes last longer and reduce waste. By focusing on quality and thoughtful production over quantity and speed to market, more thoughtful brands help reduce the 92 million tonnes of textile waste sent to landfills every year.
How We Found The Best Eco-Friendly Clothing Brands
What makes a clothing brand eco-friendly? Don’t believe all the greenwashing that is simply having a couple of organic cotton T-shirts makes an eco-friendly fashion company.
Aside from prioritizing brands we have personally rated and/or tested, here’s what we look for (to learn more about our approach, watch our video on the topic below):
Materials:
Many of our usual sustainable fabrics are represented in this list: TENCEL™ lyocell and modal, organic cotton, recycled cotton, linen, silk, deadstock/upcycled fabric, hemp, wool, and to a less extent, recycled synthetic fabrics.
Since biodegradable fabrics aren’t biodegradable if they’ve been poisoned in processing, we look for non-toxic dyes and certified chemical-free/safe-chemical products.
Relevant Certifications: OEKO-TEX, bluesign®, Global Recycle Standard (GRS), Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), Responsible Wool Standard (RWS)
Supply chain and labor practices:
While not a focus of this article, most of these brands know that eco-friendly fashion also means ethical fashion and are using ethical supply chains to support workers fully and fairly.
Relevant Certifications: Fair Trade, B Corporation (B Corp), Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI), Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP)
Carbon commitments & green practices:
We first checked for the usual green initiatives like recyclable/compostable packaging, small batches, local supply chains, and practices to reduce water, chemical, and energy use. But we were happy to see most environmentally friendly clothing brands doing more, like providing options for customers to send back old garments to be transformed into something new, get donated, or be responsibly recycled.
Community & charitable giving:
Between highlighting people working to support our environment, having team clean-up days, and making donations to organizations furthering social and environmental aims, for many of these brands, eco-friendly fashion goes far beyond style itself.
Final Thoughts On Sustainable & Ethical Clothing Brands
Overall, Mother Earth is not impressed in the dressing room of our fashion world but she’s beginning to find a perfect fit, thanks to these sustainable clothing brands.
Still, the most eco-friendly clothing is what you already have in your closet. Buying used (through online second hand stores) and buying less (perhaps adopting a minimalist wardrobe?) are still the most flattering looks for our planet. But we need not sacrifice our passion for fashion because we CAN (consciously) use new clothing to express ourselves if we put our money in the right hands.
Each time we support ethical, eco-friendly clothing brands, we’re encouraging them to do so even more and for more companies to start caring. Because many of these brands are embracing circular practices, do the same and pass this eco-friendly clothing brands list around to all of your fashionista friends!

Lovely list! I used to love Elizabeth Suzann, unfortunately their business did not make it due to COVID. My new favs are SKYE (shop-skye.com) and CO (co-collections.com). Their pieces are timeless and effortlessly elegant.
