As low-impact wardrobe warriors (or something like that), we’re keen to fill our closets with do-good garments for every eco-cassion—bedtime included.

We’re talking sustainable pajamas for sweet, socially-conscious slumber.

While some prefer to sleep in their sustainable underwear and an old t-shirt, sometimes you just need a good old-fashioned pair of PJs to spend the night in (or day—no judgment).

So in the spirit of green dreams, we’ve curated a list of our favorite sleepwear made by brands that not only prioritize responsible materials but also ethical labor and supply chain transparency.

Soon we’ll be rolling out our new Brand Rating System and its comprehensive 22-point system that ensures we’re sleeping in the most low-impact jammies possible. To learn more about this new system, see here.

We independently research all featured brands and we ask them to confirm their claims. In many cases we personally review recommended products. This post contains affiliate links which means we may earn a commission if you buy something. Learn more here.

The Dreamiest Ethical Pajamas

Consider Hernest Project’s sumptuous TENCEL™ PJs that (in our opinion after many deep sleeps) are as soft on the skin as they are on the planet, thanks to the brand’s admirable carbon commitments.

Pact is a regular go-to for us, and we’d be happy to spend all our nighttime activities in (as we do most nights) their cozy organic sleepwear made of fair trade organic cotton.

Channel some magical dreams with the chic and lightweight linen pajama sets from MagicLinen, where slow Sundays meet slow, local manufacturing. We love their sleepwear so much we find it difficult to take it off.

Printfresh

Printfresh has not been rated.

About Printfresh

Price Range: $88–$266

Printfresh is a whimsically wonderful brand for sustainable cotton pajamas in a wide range of fun and bold patterns. Seriously, orange you excited to go to sleep in the fun and fruity Clementine Sleep Shirt?!

Matching pajamas and sets can also be bought separately and mixed and matched, all to suit your PJ preference.

Printfresh’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

They join a select cohort of GOTS organic cotton pajama brands and get their lovely prints via hand screen printing and embroidering by artisans in India.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Sedex routinely evaluates their factory partner’s facilities.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

According to Printfesh, their sewing factory partner is one of the most environmentally responsible and light-filled factories they’ve seen. They’re solar-powered and recycle wastewater on site. Their printing facility also recycles waste water through a private pipeline, processing and returning it to the facility for reuse.

Printfresh also has strategic buying and shipping to warehouses (like using mostly cargo ships) to reduce their carbon footprint.

Inclusivity:

Printfresh is a majority woman-owned business with sizes from XXS to 6XL. Some sustainable PJs come in “tall” sizes.

Make a pact to support a standout sleepwear brand—AKA Boulder, Colorado’s Pact. Simple to the stitch, this brand sells a range of sustainable basics and clothing for men, women, and children.

Their affordable sustainable pajamas include waffle Henley’s, sleep shorts, pants, flannel pajama sets and robes, and cool-stretch tanks.

The breezy and booty-ful All-Ease Sleep Short is perfect for those who hate twisting up pant legs but want more than undies.

Pact’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

These pajamas are made from Fair Trade and GOTS-certified organic cotton.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Pact sources their organic cotton from India, where they also manufacture their range in Fair Trade factories that prohibit sweatshop conditions and child labor.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

Pact employs water and energy-saving techniques at the production level and uses precise cutting techniques to reduce excess fabric trimmings.

Inclusivity:

Pact encourages patrons to #JustWearYou and what garment embodies (literally) that more than PJs? S-XL sizes are available.

Maylyn & Co

Maylyn & Co has not been rated.

About Maylyn & Co.

Price Range: $120–$250

If you’re looking for sexy pajamas for women, Maylyn & Co. bridges the gap between lingerie and more practical sustainable luxury pajamas with their vegan silk chemise collection.

Maylyn & Co.’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

Maylyn & Co.’s ethical silk pajamas swap silkworms for vegan and cruelty-free silk made of a unique blend of organically-farmed lotus fibers and recycled polyester. This Persian Lotus silk ™ is designed to maintain a comfortable body temperature.

Some products feature organic modal fabric.

Supply chain & labor practices:

We’re not sure where their factory is located, but it complies with ILO guidelines and is subject to regular visits and check-ins. All employees have flex working hours, fair pay, and other benefits.

Everything is finished and packed using eco-packaging and vegan glues in their family-owned studio north of Toronto.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

Every order comes with carbon-neutral shipping and free laundry bags made from rPET.

Inclusivity:

Canada and US-based customers have access to M to XL sizes. Since each encompasses four sizes, the range spans US 0-12.

My Personal Review of Maylyn & Co.’s Blueporium Slip:

“In Maylyn & Co’s words, “It all began with skin sensitivity to synthetic materials used in clothes. The feeling of being stuck in the fabric.” Been there! That’s why I fell in love (and into bed) quickly with the Blueporium Sleepwear chemise I got to try. I’m normally a casual lingerie wearer, so I really appreciate how it’s sexy and flirty while still providing all the essential comfort and coverage. Plus, this vegan silk feels delightful on the skin. It’s just like real silk—but without the ethical implications (silk) worming their way into my conscience.”

Leena & Lu

Leena & Lu has not been rated.

About Leena & Lu

Price Range: $68–$118

Leena & Lu ensures their luxuriously soft organic Peruvian pajamas, loungewear, cardigans, and robes are better for the wearer and the earth.

We love their business model as much as we adore their chic, earthy color palettes and lounge-worthy loose fits, like the dusk-colored Pima Cotton T-Shirt Dress. Alone, it’s ideal for summer and can pair with joggers or sustainable leggings for winter.

Leena & Lu’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

Lena & Lu source 100% Fair Trade Certified and GOTS Pima cotton for their pajama sets, loungewear, robes, and cardigans. Their materials are dyed with natural dyes made of natural carmine, tara, onion peels, and avocado seeds.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Their 100% chemical-free organic cotton is grown, handpicked, and sustainably harvested in Peru. All pajamas are made in small batches, for which Leena & Lu pays fair living wages to makers.

Inclusivity:

Leena & Lu is Women-Owned and POC-Owned. Sizes range XS to XXL.

MagicLinen

MagicLinen has not been rated.

About MagicLinen

Price Range: $72–$149

MagicLinen’s eco-friendly sleepwear is pretty darn magical if you ask us—and you should, considering we’ve been crawling into our sustainable bedding (which this brand also makes) for some time now.

Their minimalist pajama designs include sweatshirts, sweatpants, and long and short-sleeve sets. The men’s collection offers the same, minus the sweatshirt and sweatpants.

MagicLinen’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

MagicLinen keeps pajamas sustainable and simple with 100% OEKO-TEX certified flax linen, or, in the case of their robes, a linen-cotton blend.

Their take on eco-friendly fabric softener is using stone washing to soften the linen without chemicals.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Using European flax, everything is made within a small studio in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

Because everything is produced locally, their emissions are kept minimum, and they have full control over production waste. Everything gets recycled or upcycled into new products, and their small-batch method keeps garment excess almost nonexistent.

Products are shipped in home compostable cornstarch bio bags and even the garment tags are made of compostable linen.

Inclusivity:

Women’s and men’s sizes both run XS-XL.

My Personal Review of MagicLinen’s Linen Pajama Set LUNI & Women’s Waffle Robe:

“MagicLinen’s Luni Linen Pajama Set is made with smooth and breathable OEKO-TEX-certified European flax for a reason—and that reason is that it’s the perfect sleep fabric, being super light and breathable. I love this set for summer sleeping and found that it gets softer over time. Because I need ANOTHER reason not to want to get out of my PJs!

As soon as it gets chilly, I reach for my ultra-cozy Waffle Robe, which keeps me toasty and warm, just like a big warm hug.”

Coyuchi

Coyuchi has not been rated.

About Coyuchi

Price Range: $28–$98

Coyuchi is a Californian brand specializing in sleep essentials: bedding, robes, and women’s and men’s sustainable sleepwear.

They offer chemises, joggers, shorts, and the essential loose-fit Dillon Organic French Terry Cardigan to throw on for chilly mornings. We love the range of colors of their ethical winter pajamas, like the earthy hues reminiscent of a coyote’s coat (hence the name Coyuchi) and their ocean-inspired blues.

Coyuchi’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

They use 100% GOTS and MADE SAFE certified organic cotton, ensuring fully compostable, non-toxic pajamas.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Coyuchi’s Textile Exchange membership and Fair Trade premium certification means they abide by regular Fair Trade standards and provide additional funding to a worker-managed Community Development Fund.

They source cotton through India’s ethically renowned Chetna Organic Farming Cooperative, which is woven in Turkey or India and manufactured at a factory in Portugal.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

Coyuchi chooses partners who employ water recycling methods (their Portuguese factory recycles 98% of water). They sell “climate beneficial products” grown using regenerative agriculture and use FSC-certified recycled cardboard and organic cotton bags for packaging.

Giving “sleep cycle” a new meaning, they embrace circularity through their 2nd Home™ recycling service. Returned items are sent to The Renewal Workshop for either resale, recycling, or composting.

Inclusivity:

Men’s pajamas are in S-XL, and women’s are in XS-XL.

My Personal Review of Coyuchi’s Isla Organic Cotton PJ Set:

“I’ve been loving my new Coyuchi Isla Organic Cotton PJ Set. The long-sleeved pant set feels light yet surprisingly warm, which was a pleasant surprise since I usually only wear long sleeves in the winter. I was a bit skeptical about the lighter weight of the organic cotton weave, but I’ve been sleeping cozy and warm, even on the coldest winter nights.

“If I need extra warmth, their Adriatic Robe is a cozy way to layer up in any season, and I adore how soft the textured fabric is. It’s sort of waffle-knit but less prone to snagging than other waffle fabrics I’ve tried.”

Hernest Project

Hernest Project has not been rated.

About Hernest Project

Price Range: $58–$159

Hernest Project’s women’s pajama sets feature clean lines and classic styles “made with movement in mind”. They call it “comfortable and effortless” and we can say in (h)ernest that we agree.

Hernest Project’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

You’ll find materials like 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton brushed fleece, TENCEL™, recycled cotton, recycled lyocell, recycled linen, and recycled elastane (<2% in any garment). All fabrics are either bluesign® approved or OEKO-TEX certified.

Hernest Project is 100% vegan and their suppliers do not use animal products in dyes or machinery.

Supply chain & labor practices:

All PJs are made in Portugal’s SM Senra, which offers employees not only a living wage, but food subsidy, bonuses, and more.

We’re pretty impressed by their dreamy transparency, including the number of employees at each location and relevant certifications. Their cotton, for instance, comes from Tanzania, where farmers are “guaranteed a premium price”.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

Beyond the PJs themselves, they use organic cotton tags, FSC-certified paper cards, and certified home compostable garment protectors and mailers from Better Packaging Co. Fabric scraps are turned into zero waste scrunchies and the RE-Nest Resale platform allows you to ensure your unwanted products make it into someone else’s nest.

Their 2030 Roadmap based on SDGs has them aiming to be carbon-neutral across scope 1 emissions by 2023, and scope 2, 3, and water neutral by 2030. For unavoidable emissions, they purchase carbon offsets.

Inclusivity:

Finding yourself, being yourself… we’re all about it”, which is why they offer inclusive XS-4XL sizes and a helpful visual size guide to see what products look like on models of each size.

My Personal Review of Hernest Project’s Ada RESET Button-Down Sleep and Lounge Top:

“I tested the Ada RESET button-down top, and it was love at first snooze. Its boxy fit is both flattering and flowy (without getting wrapped around me in the middle of the night). Not only that, but the fabric is uber soft and a little bit heavier than most PJs, which gives it a bit more durability. Over a year of use, and the fabric is pilling very slightly but is otherwise in excellent condition still.”

MATE The Label

MATE The Label has not been rated.

About MATE the Label

Price Range: $48–$148

MATE the Label has long been on our sustainable fashion BFF list, thanks to their activewear and loungewear.

Their nighttime/Netflix-binge-ready organic cotton collection earns them an invite to our slumber party, too!

MATE the Label’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

Sleep soundly in certified organic cotton and TENCEL™ Lyocell, and low-impact dyes.

Supply chain & labor practices:

MATE sources their organic cotton from India, combines it with Austria’s TENCEL™ Lyocell, and puts these fair trade pajamas together in a Los Angeles factory. Being US-based, workers benefit from California’s strict labor laws and receive fair wages.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

The MATE team uses eco-friendly office supplies, composts their food scraps, and only uses glass bottles when in need of a beverage.

Their factory is a short drive away from HQ, so their carbon footprint is small.

Inclusivity:

Everyone should get to sleep in comfy clothes, which is why we love to see MATE’s plus-size pajamas (sustainable to boot!) in XS-3X sizes.

My Personal Review of MATE the Label’s Organic Waffle Relaxed Jogger:

“I’m a big fan of all things waffle knit, so I was super excited to try these, and I can honestly say that they’re officially my favorite sweatpants. The organic cotton is gorgeously cozy and soft. They run a bit on the larger side, which makes them perfect for lounging—they’re the kind of pants that make you want to cancel plans and just stay in and get cozy!”
