About Maylyn & Co.

Maylyn & Co. was founded in 2020 by Canadian entrepreneur May Deldari, who turned her personal struggle to find comfortable, breathable sleepwear into a mission to create better options for herself and others. As May learned more about the conventional silk industry, she was deeply affected by the environmental and ethical impacts of silk production, including the treatment of silkworms. This motivated May and her team to pursue a different path and work toward meaningful change.

From the outset, Maylyn & Co has prioritized thoughtful material choices and responsible sourcing, working with small-scale, family-owned suppliers (including a lotus farm in Northern Persia) and ISO-certified production facilities. They also support local communities through clean-up initiatives and contribute to a range of environmental and impact-driven organizations.

Rating Summary

Nature & Animals

Maylyn & Co. uses a plant-based fabric made from a blend of lotus fibers and recycled PET (rPET), designed as a vegan alternative to silk. The lotus fibers are sourced from a small, family-owned farm in Northern Persia, where the plants are grown without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. The brand is PETA-approved vegan. As a blended fiber, the material is not currently recyclable and relies on extended product use to reduce its environmental impact.

Lotus plants require minimal additional irrigation and can grow in existing water systems where they act as natural biofilters. While the brand states that its supplier follows responsible water practices, no specific targets or water-use tracking are disclosed. The brand’s sourcing avoids practices linked to deforestation and habitat loss, with lotus fibers harvested from existing aquatic ecosystems.

Packaging is entirely plastic-free and includes recycled paper, organic cotton bags, and recycled and recyclable mailers.

Maylyn & Co. follows a slow-fashion, low-waste approach: small, consistent product range, minimizing fabric offcuts, repurposing scraps into accessories, running clean-up sales to reduce deadstock, and donating unsellable returns to local shelters. A take-back program with TerraCycle is planned for 2027.

To reduce emissions, the brand prioritizes ocean freight over air, limits expedited shipping, and partners with shipping providers that offer carbon-neutral delivery. Most employees work remotely, and energy use is reduced at the brand’s headquarters through LED and natural lighting, energy-efficient appliances, smart power controls, and efficient heating and cooling systems.

The brand does not currently disclose formal data, targets, or tracking for chemical management, emissions, or energy use.

Maylyn & Co. is a BIPOC, queer, and woman-owned brand that employs a diverse workforce, including immigrants, neurodivergent, and gender-diverse individuals, and focuses on supporting women. Products are inclusively designed and marketed using models of diverse ethnicities.

Products are tested internally by team members prior to sale. Manufacturing occurs in ISO-certified facilities, though finished fabrics and products do not carry independent safety or non-toxicity certifications. Customer data is protected via a clear privacy policy, and transactions are processed securely through Shopify with SSL encryption.
