Tossing and turning in (in)organic PJs? You don’t have to! Snuggle in, because we’re about to tell you a bedtime story about some magical organic cotton pajamas.
Once upon a time there was a magical fabric called organic cotton…
While regular cotton is one of the world’s dirtiest crops, its organic counterpart is one of the cleanest. It’s grown without pesticides, fertilizers, and enormous amounts of water. Which means nightmare-free sleep for the entire family (and our planet).
So in the spirit of sweet dreams, we’ve curated our fave jammies that are made by brands who not only use this magical fabric but also focus on ethical labor and transparent supply chains.
But we’re not stopping our safe sleep search there. Soon we’ll be employing our new Brand Rating System, to extend what we look for in a brand against a range of criteria, including climate action and waste management. You can read all about it here.
We independently research all featured brands and we ask them to confirm their claims. In many cases we personally review recommended products. This post contains affiliate links which means we may earn a commission if you buy something. Learn more here.
Safe & Sweet Dreams In The Best Organic Cotton Sleepwear
Once upon a time, there was a brand called Coyuchi that dreamt of bringing fair trade cotton to the land of sleep essentials (and we can personally vouch for the coziness of their long-sleeve pajama set).
YALA wanted to bring uninterrupted deep sleep to those in the kingdom with thermo-regulating, bamboo sleepwear.

YALA is a “women-owned, women-led” sustainable business, bringing us some of the best organic cotton pajamas.
While bamboo pajamas—in gowns, robes, sleep shirts, pants, and sets—are their main focus, you’ll find some that blend in organic cotton, like the Berkeley Puff Raglan Sweatshirt Top.
YALA’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices
Materials:
Organic bamboo is their main fabric due to its quick regeneration and lack of need for irrigation. It’s certified by the FSC and processed in a closed-loop system that recycles 98% of water They also use certified organic cotton, RWS-certified superfine merino wool, and recycled spandex in some items to increase durability.
AZO-free dyes, bluesign®-approval, and ECOCERT and OEKO-TEX certifications ensures no toxic chemicals crawl into bed with you.
Supply chain & labor practices:
Having worked with the same production team for 17 years in China (where the bamboo is hand-harvested) ensures a close working relationship so they can better monitor workplace conditions. As much as possible, they adhere to a “sewn where sourced” policy. Only their non-mulesed merino wool comes from outside China from small, family farms in New Zealand.
Carbon commitments & green practices:
In addition to reducing their manufacturing emissions by centralizing entities, they hope to keep your PJs around as long as possible by encouraging proper fabric care. Please machine wash with cold water.

My Personal Review of MATE the Label’s Organic Waffle Relaxed Jogger:
“Hands down, these are my favorite ever sweatpants! I’m a big fan of waffle knit, and the texture of these is just so satisfying. The organic cotton is breathable, durable, and insanely soft, and the oversized, relaxed fit makes them perfect for snoozing and lounging about. Pair it with one of their organic tees for head-to-toe organic comfort.”

My Personal Review Of Coyuchi’s Isla Organic Cotton PJ Set:
“I’m so happy with my new Coyuchi Isla Organic Cotton PJ Set! The long-sleeve and pant set feels lightweight yet amazingly warm, which was a nice surprise since I typically only wear long sleeves in the winter. I was initially unsure about the lighter organic cotton weave, but it’s kept me cozy and warm, even on the chilliest winter nights here in Wyoming.”
