About Pact

Price Range: $20–$128

Pact isn’t just Earth’s Favorite™; they’re one of our favorite sustainable clothing brands we’ve tried—and we’ve tried everything from their sustainable basics to their dressier styles.

They offer a vast catalog of organic cotton t-shirts, sweaters, hoodies, pants, shorts, and more for both men and women.

We especially love the simple silhouettes and super soft organic cotton fabric of Pact’s dresses, like the Fit & Flare line, which is as elegant as it is comfortable and functional.

And ladies, did we mention most of their dresses have pockets?!

Pact’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

Pact’s eco-friendly clothing is primarily made from GOTS-certified organic cotton. Some sustainable clothes include a blend of responsible materials, like hemp.

Pact incorporates a bit of elastane in some of its organic cotton clothing, with materials clearly marked on each page.

About Patagonia

Price Range: $45–$269

Patagonia is one of the best sustainable clothing brands, USA and far beyond—and we should know, considering nearly a quarter of our wardrobe bears their famous logo.

While we could go on about all their products that we love—which, by the way, tend to stick around for decades rather than cycling through new styles each season—but we’ll restrain our rant to the Micro Puff Jacket.

This fully recycled puffy jacket is a staple in our wardrobe just about year-round. Its recycled synthetic down alternative fill is just as lightweight and warm as its feathered counterpart, while being much more durable and ethical.

They offer everything from technical ski-wear and workwear to casual loungewear and dresses.

Patagonia’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

Nearly 90% of Patagonia’s fabrics are eco-friendly materials, like regenerative or organic cotton, hemp, RDS-certified down, cashmere, polyester, down, nylon, and other recycled materials.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Most of Patagonia’s products are developed in Fair Trade-certified factories.

The eco-conscious clothing brand is also a founding and accredited Fair Labor Association member and with their Footprint Chronicles, you can find out exactly which location produced each item.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

In terms of eco efforts, Patagonia is one of the most progressive clothing brands, and has been for decades.

They helped start the first certification program for regenerative agriculture, use 100% organic or regenerative cotton, and have kept over 900 tons of recycled plastic bottles out of the ocean with their recycled fabrics.

Any of this eco-friendly brand’s clothing can be resold via Patagonia’s Worn Wear program.

Inclusivity:

Patagonia’s eco-friendly women’s clothing ranges from XS–XXL and 0–18. The men’s sizes range from XS–XXL and 28″–40″ in short, regular, and long inseams.

Community & charitable giving:

Patagonia co-created 1% for the Planet and has continuously pledged 1% of its sales (or more) for over three decades.

In fact, founder Yvon Chouinard recently handed voting stock was given to a purpose trust (which ensures they keep inproving their business practices) and non-voting stock was given to the Holdfast Collective, an environmental-minded 501(c)(4) nonprofit.

Visit Patagonia Action Works to find local environmental organizations and causes in your area.

5. Colorful Standard

13 Eco-Friendly Clothing Brands Focused On The Perfect Sustainable FitImages by Sustainable Jungle#ecofriendlyclothingbrands #bestecofriendlyclothingbrands #ecofriendlyclothingbrandsUSA #sustainableclothingbrands #affordablesustainableclothingbrands #sustainablebrandsclothing #sustainablejungle
Images by Sustainable Jungle

About Colorful Standard

Price Range: $11–$90

Regarding minimalist eco-friendly clothing lines, it’s hard to match up to Colorful Standard.

With certified organic cotton as the heart of their catalog of organic sweatpants, tees, and sweatshirts, CS crafts high-quality wardrobe staples built to last.

We love the durable and ultra cozy Organic Crewneck so much that we own it in two different colors—and still can’t help but want more when looking at their kaleidoscopic 63 color pallet.

Colorful Standard’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

The sustainable clothing manufacturer uses GOTS-certified organic cotton for nearly all of its pieces, with 100% GRS-certified recycled wool when they aren’t using organic cotton.

All those colorful sustainable hoodies are the product of low-impact dyes with OEKO-TEX certification as free from harmful chemicals.

Supply chain & labor practices:

All eco clothing pieces are produced at a manufacturing center in Portugal, following the high standards set by the EU.

Colorful Standard is entirely transparent, allowing anyone to visit its ethical factories.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

Their manufacturing process uses techniques to minimize fabric scraps compared to conventional fast fashion brands. There are still fabric scraps with their precise production process, so they repurpose them as furniture filling.

This sustainable fashion brand makes all its labels and eco-friendly packaging from recycled plastic whenever possible.

Inclusivity:

The sustainable clothing for women offers XS–2XL women’s and XS–2XL men’s.

Community & charitable giving:

The environmental clothing brand’s founders helped develop a football field for children in the Democratic Republic of The Congo. They’ve since upped their contributions by creating a local multipurpose activity center.

A.BCH prioritizes local raw material suppliers, manufacturing all of their pieces under Ethical Clothing Australia Accreditation guidelines.

Pieces are crafted locally in Melbourne, Australia, at an in-house carbon-neutral factory where they pay well above the Australian Living Wage.

The environmentally friendly clothing brand seeks partners with carbon-neutral factories, ensuring fair wages, working conditions, and audits from GOTS, Fair Trade, or Fair Wear Foundation.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

A.BCH designs each piece with a detailed lifecycle, and it must be recyclable or compostable once it reaches the end of its shelf-life.

They take back branded garments and assess them for recycling or repurposing by blending them into new sustainable fabrics and pieces.

All the carbon emissions generated at their wind-powered factory are offset thanks to UN Certified Emission Reduction (CER) certificates.

Customers can also rent pieces, reducing the need for additional production costs and waste. We love clothing rental online!

Inclusivity:

Many A.BCH pieces are gender-neutral, allowing for more inclusive and diverse designs. Hooray for more gender-neutral clothing brands.

They otherwise offer men’s sizes XXS–3XL and women’s sizes XXS–3XL and 1–5.

About MATE the Label

Price Range: $15–$268

It’s good to have a friend in MATE the Label, one of the top sustainable clothing brands Los Angeles has to offer.

This slow fashion brand does everything fast fashion does not: ethical supply chains, circular practices, and inclusive sizes.

They carry women’s garments like tees, sweatshirts, sweatpants, bottoms, thermals, shorts, tanks, and more.

If we had to succinctly describe their range of sustainable loungewear and activewear, it would have to be “simply stylish”. Though minimalist and simple in design, they bring an elevated level of style to everyday wardrobe staples like the Organic Fleece Relaxed Pocket Sweatpant.

MATE the Label’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

To keep garments biodegradable and often compostable, MATE uses TENCEL™ modal and lyocell, organic cotton, recycled cotton, and linen, keeping elastane to a minimum.

Garments are dyed with low-impact dyes. Even the buttons are made from natural pearwood instead of plastic.

Supply chain & labor practices:

We cover the latest in sustainable living, fashion, zero waste, beauty, travel, finance and more…

How We Found The Best Eco-Friendly Clothing Brands

Today, knowing what clothing brands are eco-friendly is only half the battle—we also need to know why something is considered a sustainable fashion brand.

What does that term mean? And why is Shein so bad i.e. not considered an eco-friendly company? H&M? Zara?

In other words: what makes a clothing brand eco-friendly?

Don’t believe all the greenwashing that is simply having a couple of organic cotton T-shirts makes an eco-friendly fashion company.

Here’s everything we look at using our sustainable fashion criteria:

Materials:

Many of our usual sustainable fabrics are represented in this list: TENCEL™ lyocell and modal, organic cotton, recycled cotton, linen, silk, deadstock/upcycled fabric, hemp, wool, and recycled synthetic fabrics.

Since biodegradable fabrics aren’t biodegradable if they’ve been poisoned in processing, we look for non-toxic dyes and certified chemical-free/safe-chemical products.

Supply chain and labor practices:

While not a focus of this article, most of these brands know that eco-friendly fashion also means ethical fashion and are using ethical supply chains to support workers fully and fairly.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

We first checked for the usual green initiatives like recyclable/compostable packaging, small batches, local supply chains, and practices to reduce water, chemical, and energy use.

But we were happy to see most environmentally friendly clothing brands doing more, like providing options for customers to send back old garments to be transformed into something new, get donated, or be responsibly recycled.

Inclusivity:

From a size perspective, most brands had a decent representation, both in their available sizes and use of models. Some offer plus sizes, too.

Community & charitable giving:

Between highlighting people working to support our environment, having team clean-up days, and making donations to organizations furthering social and environmental aims, for many of these brands, eco-friendly fashion goes far beyond style itself.

Final Thoughts On Sustainable & Eco-Friendly Clothing Brands

Overall, Mother Earth is not impressed in the dressing room of our fashion world—but she’s beginning to find a perfect fit, thanks to these eco-friendly clothing stores

Still, the most eco-friendly clothing is what you already have in your closet.

Buying used (through online second hand stores) and buying less (perhaps adopting a minimalist wardrobe?) are still the most flattering looks for our planet.

But we need not sacrifice our passion for fashion because we CAN (consciously) use new clothing to express ourselves if we put our money in the right hands.

Each time we support a company that cares about our planet, we’re encouraging them to do so even more and for more companies to start caring.

Because many of these brands are embracing circular practices, do the same and pass this eco-friendly clothing brands list around to all of your fashionista friends!
