Are you feeling guilty after spending the day binge-watching your favorite series (again)? At least with sustainable loungewear, you can rest easy, knowing your Lazy Sunday isn’t causing someone, somewhere, a lot of unrewarded hard work.

Conventional loungewear often comes with a surprisingly heavy footprint, from pesticide-intensive cotton and microplastic-shedding synthetics to exploitative labor practices and toxic chemical finishes. But choosing organic cotton loungewear and other eco friendly alternatives means supporting organic farming, better materials, cleaner production, and fair wages.

We’ve rounded up the best sustainable loungewear brands made from GOTS-certified organic cotton, innovative lotus silk, recycled materials, and other low-impact fabrics. We prioritized brands with transparent supply chains, fair labor practices, plastic-free packaging, and climate commitments, from fully USA-made production to carbon neutral certifications and take-back programs. Whether you’re looking for cozy organic cotton sets, non-toxic options for sensitive skin, or luxurious vegan silk robes, these brands offer comfort (and better supply chains) for all your relaxation needs.

You will also notice “rated” loungewear brands on the list below which means these brands have opted in to be rated against our 22 sustainability criteria. Find other rated brands in our sustainable brand directory.

Their organic loungewear is made predominantly with GOTS-certified organic cotton and can also include GRS-certified recycled nylon, TENCEL™ lyocell, recycled wool, and elastane.

My Personal Review of Organic Basics Loungewear:

“I have tried Organic Basics’ Boxy Long Sleeve Tee, their True Knit Wide Leg Pants, their Flex Tee and their True Boxy Tee, all of which are included in the brand’s current formal loungewear range. For lounging, my favorite is the Long Sleeve Tee which is loose fitting, super soft and comfortable. I really like how it fits and and sits on me. Their True Knit Wide Leg pants are also lovely for lounging in, they’re quite fitted around the bum but the material stretches in all the right places to enable unencumbered relaxing. They are way too long for me though (5″2) so I will be taking them up. The Flex Tee is super cute but for me a bit too tight to be deemed comfortable loungewear. The True Boxy Tee is similar to the long sleeve made from the same organic cotton. It fits nice n loose which is ideal for lounging.”

My Personal Review of Organic Basics Loungewear:

“I have tried Organic Basics’ Weekend Boxy Fit Crewneck Sweatshirt. It has an oversized fit so I feel a little enveloped by it but it’s a nice change from my usual tighter sweatshirts. The key feature is it’s softness which I really like and makes for ultra cozy lounging.”

My Personal Review of Pact’s Organic Loungewear:

“I own Pact’s Airplane Departure Set which is the ultimate loungewear. I love wearing it when working at home as it feels like soft pajamas but looks more like a smart suit. Having said that, there is a lot of fabric there on the jacket in particular – it’s quite heavy on my smallish frame so I’d probably opt for one of the lighter sweater sets if I could have my time over.”

Harvest & Mill

Harvest & Mill has not been rated.

Price Range: $$-$$$

For those seeking non-toxic, American-made sustainable loungewear, Harvest & Mill delivers with their 100% organic cotton collection. Their ethical loungewear range includes heavyweight crew sweatshirts, hoodies, joggers, and coordinating sets.

Every piece of this organic cotton loungewear is crafted from heirloom organic cotton grown, milled, and sewn entirely in the USA. Most fabrics remain undyed, showcasing the natural cream and beige tones of the cotton itself. Their black pieces use low-impact fiber-reactive dyes that follow strict EPA discharge standards, ensuring zero water and soil pollution.

Harvest & Mill’s commitment to a fully domestic supply chain means they partner exclusively with small, independent, ethical suppliers and factories across America. Even their biodegradable mailers are USA-made. All workers benefit from safe conditions and fair wages. The brand avoids synthetic chemical finishes, bleach, and toxic dyes.

The brand supports regenerative agriculture through partnerships with Fibershed to increase biodiversity and promote soil health. They minimize waste through precision patterns and upcycle fabric scraps, while offsetting their carbon footprint through renewable energy and reforestation investments.

People Of Leisure

People Of Leisure has not been rated.

Price Range: $$-$$$

People of Leisure has always believed in slow fashion to promote the environment and its inhabitants. They have a stunning selection of unique casual and loungewear, that includes vintage-inspired band wear, hoodies, dresses, bottoms, eco-friendly outfit sets, jumpsuits, and accessories.

People of Leisure started by purchasing deadstock fabrics destined for landfills, but now incorporate other materials into their production, like 100% organic cotton and hemp. They use low-impact sustainable dyes to reduce water use and harmful chemicals in their products.

Garments are ethically made in Los Angeles, California where POL employs a Zero Sweat Policy to create an environment that honors employees. This policy includes living wages, benefits, breaks, and flexible hours to meet their employees’ lives.

POL partners with Tree-Nation to plant trees to compensate for the carbon emissions from shipping online orders.

My Personal Review of People Of Leisure’s Loungewear

“I stepped foot onto the Stairway to Heaven the moment I stepped into the Led Zeppelin 1977 Tunic Top. Not only is its 100% organic cotton body super soft, but the oversized draping design means I never have to have to steal my partner’s t-shirts again. Plus, since it hangs long, I don’t feel the need to put on pajama bottoms when padding around my house.

When it gets a bit cooler, I like to layer the Awakened Joggers underneath and the matching Awakened Hoodie on top. Both are made of snuggly 100% organic cotton, but I especially love the joggers, which are the perfect weight (not too thick, not too thin), so I can comfortably lounge about in them all year long.”

MATE The Label

MATE The Label has not been rated.

Price Range: $$-$$$

What does loungewear mean to you? Pajamas? A cozy sweater? A boxy tee? No matter your answer, MATE the Label’s organic loungewear is rock solid, fun, and incredibly comfortable—just like your best mate. Choose between sweatpants, sweatshirts, sweaters, tees, tanks, robes, pajamas, and more.

Organic cotton features heavily in MATE’s repertoire, alongside linen, TENCEL™ lyocell, and alpaca. Fabrics are finished with cotton thread and Azo-free, low-impact dyes.

MATE works with fair factories located close to their Los Angeles headquarters. They also work with a GOTS-certified factory in India, and knitted sweaters are made in a Fair Trade factory in Peru. The Certified B Corp recycles old MATE clothing and production scraps into new products and packaging is plastic-free.

My Personal Review of MATE the Label’s Organic Waffle Relaxed Jogger:

“These sweatpants are officially my favorite. I love anything waffle knit, so if you’re the same, I highly recommend these. The waffle weave makes them super cozy and soft, and the organic cotton is both breathable and tough. They also have that perfect slouchy vibe, and since they run a bit on the larger side, they’re basically made for the ultimate lounging.”

tentree

tentree has not been rated.

Price Range: $-$$

tentree may be known as a sustainable outdoor clothing brand, but it’s also a tree(t) on days when the only hike you’ll be taking is from the fridge to the couch. Their loungewear includes sweatshirts, joggers, t-shirts, cardigans, sweaters, hoodies, and more.

The Canadian brand uses a core collection of materials, including TENCEL™ lyocell, GOTS-certified cotton, recycled polyester, and hemp fabric.

tentree is a high-scoring Certified B Corp committed to manufacturing ethics. Their regularly audited factories are located in China, Turkey, India, and Vietnam and they share the details for each on their website.

The Climate Label certified brand offsets its emissions and offers monthly tree-planting subscriptions, so customers can do the same. Circularity by tentree is their resale platform, helping keep clothes in circulation longer. For every item purchased, tentree plants ten trees (get it?), specifically in deforested areas to increase biodiversity.

My Personal Review of tentree’s Organic Cotton Loungewear For Men:

“I own one of tentree’s hoodies and love it. The buttery soft fabric is comfortable and I like the smooth drawstrings with the cork detail. It’s ideal for lounging and working at home.”

Printfresh

Printfresh has not been rated.

Price Range: $$-$$$

Printfresh’s colorful animal and plant-inspired prints add some excitement to a chill day around the house. From sustainable loungewear sets to nightgowns and robes, the bold designs will make a vibrant addition to your loungewear collection.

Loungewear typically features 100% organic cotton. The satin robes and sleepwear sets in their Luxe Collection are made from eco-friendly viscose. Printfresh don’t detail what they mean by eco-friendly viscose though they say its sourced from forests following sustainable forestry principles. Still, we don’t know if it’s produced using a closed loop system so we would personally stick to the organic cotton.

Patterns are either screen printed by hand or embroidered by artisans in India. Printfresh’s manufacturing partner is regularly audited by Sedex.

Printfresh minimizes fabric waste through an efficient cutting process, and any scraps are saved for future upcycling projects. Both their printing and sewing factories recycle wastewater. The sewing facility is also solar-powered. Orders are shipped in 100% recycled mailers and 90% of their inventory is transported via sea freight.

Printfresh is a part of Pledge 1%, dedicating 1% of company resources to charities like Loveland Foundation, and the MADE Institute in Philadelphia.

Why Support Organic & Sustainable Loungewear Brands

Loungewear might feel like the coziest category in your closet, but conventional options come with a surprisingly heavy footprint. Most mainstream loungewear is made from virgin polyester, acrylic, and other petroleum-based synthetics that shed microplastics with every wash, polluting waterways and harming aquatic life. Even “soft” fabrics often rely on chemical finishes, toxic dyes, and formaldehyde treatments to achieve that plush feel.

Conventional cotton loungewear isn’t much better. Non-organic cotton is one of the most pesticide-intensive crops globally, contaminating soil and water while putting farmworkers’ health at risk. The dyeing and finishing processes add another layer of pollution, with untreated wastewater often discharged directly into rivers near textile hubs.

Fast-fashion supply chains frequently mean poverty wages, unsafe factories, and zero transparency about who made your loungewear or where. Add excessive plastic packaging, short product lifespans, and landfill-bound waste, and you’ve got a major environmental and social problem wrapped up in your “relaxation wear.”

Choosing organic cotton loungewear and other sustainable alternatives means supporting organic and regenerative agriculture, cleaner production methods, fair labor practices, and brands that prioritize people and planet over profit margins. Not perfect by any means, but better!

How We Found These Sustainable & Organic Loungewear Brands

Finding sustainable loungewear is a bit like searching for the perfect level of cozy—you have to sift through a lot of greenwashing and vague claims before you land on something that actually holds up.

We used our Sustainable & Ethical Fashion Guide as a framework, focusing on materials, supply chains, certifications, and overall business practices. Because we believe in walking the talk, we included brands that have been rated against our own Sustainable Jungle Brand Rating System, which scores companies across four pillars: Nature & Animals, Communities & Wellbeing, Business Values & Governance, and Product Performance.

Materials

We prioritized brands using organic cotton (ideally certified by GOTS), along with other planet-friendly fabrics like recycled cotton, TENCEL™ lyocell, recycled polyester, and innovative fibers like lotus silk. Organic cotton is especially important in loungewear because it’s grown without toxic pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, making it better for soil health, water systems, farmworkers, and your skin.

We favored brands that avoid harmful chemical finishes, use low-impact or natural dyes, and offer undyed options for those with sensitivities. Sometimes synthetic fabrics are present (usually a small percentage of elastane for stretch) so we’d look for items that avoid this where possible.

Relevant Certifications: Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), OEKO-TEX® 100, bluesign®, PETA-Approved Vegan, Cradle to Cradle Certified®, Recycled Content Standard (RCS), Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC), Global Recycled Standard (GRS)

Supply Chain & Labor Practices

We prioritized brands that uphold fair labor, safe working conditions, ideally backed by a Fair Trade Certified™, WRAP, SMETA, BSCI, or similar certifications and audits. We also looked for brands with transparent, localized supply chains that make it easier to ensure ethical practices and avoid exploitation.

Relevant Certifications: Fair Trade Certified™, WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production), SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit), BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative), SA8000, Certified B Corporation®, ILO Compliance

Climate Action & Green Business Practices

We looked for brands going beyond the basics: carbon neutral or carbon negative certifications, renewable energy use, plastic-free packaging, take-back and recycling programs, and low-waste manufacturing. We favored brands investing in regenerative agriculture, biodegradable materials, and transparent carbon footprint reporting.

Relevant Certifications: Climate Label Certified, Certified B Corporation®

Community & Giving Back

Finally, we favored brands that use their platforms and profits for good, whether through charity partnerships, environmental activism, employment programs for marginalized communities, or circularity initiatives that keep textiles out of landfills. Supporting these brands means your ethical loungewear purchase contributes to positive social and environmental change.

Final Thoughts On Ethical Lounge Wear

Sometimes, it’s important to slow down, especially when it comes to slow fashion. Fortunately, these brands can help on both counts.

Remember, the best sustainable loungewear is that pair of organic leggings already in your cupboard and those organic sweats already hanging on your bedroom door, followed by something secondhand. You might find something new-to-you from one of these brands or an online thrift store—and still not have to leave the comfort of your couch!

Know someone who enjoys hanging out at home? Be a good mate and share this article with your lounge-loving friends so they can have a cozy and conscious lazy day, too.
