Let’s face it. Developing a truly clean girl skincare routine that doesn’t contain harmful ingredients like parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, and preservatives is like getting rid of those nasty blackheads.

Not impossible, but difficult—especially considering the amount of greenwashing in the beauty industry. We find it kind of ironic that products marketed to help our skin actually contain ingredients that do far more damage than good.

On the positive, it is becoming easier to cut out the toxic chemicals and opt for a more minimalist approach, thanks to emerging natural skincare brands that leave us intoxicated (or should we say, non-intoxicated?).

So, after reading a mountain of reviews, researching ingredient labels and standards and testing a plethora of clean girl skincare products on ourselves for achieving that effortless aesthetic, we’ve curated this list of brands for you who not only prioritize organic ingredients but also ethical sourcing and low-impact packaging.

But before we get into that, let’s first discuss what our simple skincare routine consists of.

My Personal Review of Activist’s Precious Oil Active Infusion:

“I’m highly impressed with the Precious Oil Active Infusion. It’s designed for all skin types and packed with soothing, nourishing, and protective ingredients, including chamomile extract, coenzyme Q10, and plant-based antioxidants. I typically use it on my face in the morning, but it’s also worked wonders for my scalp when it’s been dry and flaky.

“I also love their Calming Force Serum, which has been a total lifesaver for my sensitive skin. It’s incredibly calming and quickly soothes any redness and irritation while boosting hydration. I especially appreciate how quickly it absorbs, leaving my skin smooth and balanced without leaving any greasiness behind.”

My Personal Review of Delicate Daisys Body Cream:

“It’s a body cream—so I wasn’t expecting anything super innovative—but this one smells like a tropical vacation and actually makes my skin feel super smooth. I use it a few times a week, mostly on my hands, feet, legs, and arms which get pretty dry and battered in summer season, and I swear things are looking a little firmer (or maybe that’s the power of positive thinking?). Either way, it feels good, smells amazing, and leaves my skin feeling like I didn’t spend the entire day baking it in the sun.”

My Personal Review of Oway’s Scalp Bath & Frequent Use Conditioner:

“After trying Oway’s Frequent Use Hair & Scalp Bath paired with their Frequent Use Conditioner, I was impressed by their gentle yet effective cleansing properties. The subtle, natural scent—a blend of lemon, orange, grapefruit, and the surprisingly spicy yet pleasant underlying notes of pepper—is refreshing without being overpowering. While the shampoo doesn’t produce much foam, it still cleanses thoroughly, leaving my hair feeling clean and hydrated. The conditioner complements it well, detangling and moisturizing without weighing down my very fine hair strands.”

Plaine Products is a Certified B Corp specializing in refillable skin and body care made in the USA. Their select range includes face moisturizer, cleanser, toner, body lotion, and body wash—each made with safe, non-toxic ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter, and rosehip oil, and verified through the EWG Skin Deep database.

All products come in refillable aluminum bottles with reusable plastic pumps. Empty bottles can be returned using a prepaid label, sanitized, and reused as part of their closed-loop refill system. The brand is carbon neutral, woman-owned, and a member of both 1% for the Planet and the Plastic Pollution Coalition.

My Personal Review of Plaine Product’s Body Lotion:

“Their Body Lotion contains a hydrating and highly absorbent blend of organic aloe, safflower oil, and rosehip oil. I found it had a low viscosity, easily covering a large surface area of our skin for not that much product. More than anything, I appreciate how quickly it absorbs because while I appreciate having moisturized skin, I DESPISE the slick, greasy feeling it takes to get there.”

Fat & The Moon

Fat & The Moon has not been rated.

Price Range: $6–$42

Fat and The Moon’s is a woman-owned skincare brand that formulates small-batch, herbal-based products rooted in traditional healing philosophies. Their all-natural range includes salves, face and body lotions, oils, mists, exfoliators, cleansers, and masks—each made fresh-to-order using mostly organic ingredients like botanical oils, clays, plant extracts, and essential oils.

Formulas are free from parabens, sulfates, phthalates, and synthetic preservatives, making them well-suited for sensitive skin. Standouts include the Pimple Mud Mask, designed to clarify without over-drying, and their gentle postpartum and pregnancy-safe products.

All items are packaged in reusable or recyclable materials, like glass jars or metal tins. In addition to skincare, Fat and the Moon also offers natural makeup and hair care.

My Personal Review of Fat and the Moon’s All Cream:

“Sunflower oil, aloe vera, shea butter, rosewater, beeswax, and elderberry extract make for a killer skincare treatment.

After testing this lotion over a pretty cold Wyoming winter, I’d recommend using this in your morning routine to keep your face (or body) moisturized for the rest of the day. And also, store it in in the fridge to extend its shelf life (up to two months).”

EcoRoots

EcoRoots has not been rated.

Price Range: $9–$65

Colorado’s EcoRoots is a women-owned small business selling over 50 low-waste products—including some of our favorite zero waste lip balm.

Their products are designed for all skin types, but are particularly suitable for delicate skin thanks to their gentle formulas featuring plant based ingredients like citric acid, organic coconut oil, and provitamin B5. Naturally high in Vitamin C and antioxidants, these ingredients are exceptional at fighting free radicals and wrinkles.

All products are cruelty-free, vegan, and non-toxic, though some contain palm oil derivatives. Packaging is either cardboard or glass jars with aluminum lids and all orders are shipped plastic-free.

My Personal Review of EcoRoots’ Rosehip Facial Cream:

“FYI – other than a slightly oily complexion, I don’t have problematic or combination skin I can use most creams without too much of an issue. I love the rosehip scent in this cream. Unlike a lot of conventional moisturizers, this is understated not overpowering. However, some may get irritated and want to steer clear of fragrant creams. I found it light enough as a day cream in the winter, but a little too heavy during the summer when it’s better as a night cream. It’s not greasy at all, very smooth, and absorbs really fast.”

100% Pure

100% Pure has not been rated.

Price Range: $7–$68

100% Pure has 100% grown on us—unlike pimples since we started using their range of cleansing oils and gels, face serums, and more.

Aiming to be climate positive by the end of this year, 100% Pure is 100% committed to clean products and manufacturing. Everything is vegan, cruelty-free, and made with certified organic ingredients sourced in adherence to Ethical Trade Initiative principles.

As with their range of plant-pigmented pregnancy-safe makeup, you can use any of their products during pregnancy, too.

While some plastic is still used, they’re working on replacing it with post-consumer recycled materials to match their sustainable shipping packaging.

My Personal Review of 100% Pure’s Organic Marula Oi & Rosehip Oil:

“Of all their 100% natural skincare products I’ve tried, my favorite is the Organic Marula Oil, partially because it contains just one ingredient. You guessed it: cold-pressed certified organic marula oil. Rich in antioxidants, it reduces elastin breakdown, so it’s great for those wrinkles I’m starting to notice appear. It’s also non-irritating, making it suitable for all skin types and conditions. I recently started to notice an irritated, horribly itchy patch of skin right at my hairline, and after applying this oil every night for four days, it was gone and has never returned.

“I prefer oil-based moisturizing to lotions because, ironically enough, I find oils to be far less oily. 100% Pure’s Organic Rosehip Oil is another skin winner. Despite it being a pure and completely concentrated rosehip oil, I’m astounded at how quickly my skin eats it up. I like to use it on wounds, too, as I think it really helps heal and lighten scars, as well as on my face because I think it gives my skin a really vibrant look.”

Butter Me Up Organics

Butter Me Up Organics has not been rated.

Price Range: $7–$97

Butter Me Up Organics’ skin-focused range is vast, containing everything you need to protect and polish your skin, individually or in sets.

We personally use a lot of their products because they’re gentle on sensitive skin, and are formulated with sustainably and ethically sourced organic, nourishing and nonirritating ingredients like avocado oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax.

The organic skincare brand specializes in lotions, creams, serums, biodegradable sunscreen, and body butters made only with the highest quality ingredients for your skin. All products come housed in glass, tin, or paperboard.

My Personal Review of Butter Me Up Organics’ Magnesium Lotion:

“I personally use a lot of their products, but one of my go-to natural skin care remedies is their Organic Magnesium Lotion. The secret is the magnesium chloride, which sounds scary, but isn’t. It’s the most easy-to-absorb form of magnesium, which can help regulate the whole body’s magnesium levels. Not only is magnesium crucial for stress hormone regulation but too little of it is correlated with deficiencies in fatty acids that maintain skin moisture and elasticity. I’m a big holistic health nut, so the fact that I can treat my skin and my overall body at once gets a big thumbs up from me. Because magnesium is shown to help you sleep better, I usually apply this at night.”

My Personal Review of Butter Me Up Organics’ Under-Eye Balm:

“I turned 30 this year…which means I have to start paying attention to those fine lines around the eyes, I guess! This balm has been super helpful for me in doing just that, as I can apply it in just 15 seconds in the morning right when I wake up. The one potential issue I could find is that the formula is very thick and solid, which kind of makes it difficult to get much out of the container. On the other hand, not much is needed, so a little swipe is usually plenty.”

Meow Meow Tweet

Meow Meow Tweet has not been rated.

Price Range: $12–$30

Meow Meow Tweet has long been an SJ favorite for their hard vegan stance and completely clean ingredients used across their range of toners, facial soap, skin repair balm, and more.

The Matcha Lime Face Mask + acne prone skin = a matcha made in heaven. Packed with skin loving ingredients like antioxidant matcha, hydrating marshmallow root, and absorbing green clay, this all-in-one face mask leaves every skin type exfoliated and hydrated. Simply mix a spoonful of powder with water and apply.

Though designed to be a face mask, the powder-to-paste product could also be used as a soapless face wash or spot treatment. This as suggested can be used once or twice a week as part of your clean skincare routine.

Meow Meow Tweet has a little bit of everything for the skin, from deodorant to natural insect repellent. Not only are all their products vegan and Leaping Bunny certified, but they also come housed in glass, cardboard, and/or aluminum packaging.

The Certified B Corp is certified climate neutral and plastic negative through a partnership with rePurpose Global.

etee

etee has not been rated.

Price Range: $29–$99

etee offers a small skin care line of products, and they’re one of our favorite sustainable moisturizers brands.

Their products include the likes of hyaluronic acid, squalane, and euglena gracilis, anti-aging natural skincare formulas that are quite different from the plant butter and essential oils concoctions we are used to seeing.

Beyond glass, some of their products are housed in a chrysalis-themed compostable wax pod, we’d go as far to say this product will transform your skin.

The Toronto-based brand oversees its entire supply chain, ensuring no plastic or unfair labor is used in the manufacturing process (which takes place in a factory that utilizes renewable energy).

My Personal Review of etee’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer:

“I’m a big fan of Etee’s Facial Moisturizer. It’s lightweight and absorbs quickly, leaving my skin feeling hydrated and smooth—without any greasy residue, which is a total must for me. The beeswax refill tubes are total genius. I do find that they aren’t so great with some of etee’s liquid cleaners, but for creams like this one, they’re ideal. I also love that it comes with a little jar. While it doesn’t look like it will take the whole pod’s worth, trust me, it does!”

Juice Beauty

Juice Beauty has not been rated.

Price Range: $7–$443

Juice Beauty’s Stem Cellular Anti-Wrinkle Skincare line includes our favorite overnight clean retinol serum, voted Chicago Tribune Best in Class, and for good reason.

The product is effective at reducing dark spots, skin texture, and wrinkles. Some other certified organic ingredients you’ll find include Vitamin C and Jojoba Oil. The rest of their skincare for men and women, from sunscreen to exfoliating masks, also use plant-based ingredients sourced transparently from mission driven organic farmers, or grown on their own farm.

Their skincare products are cruelty-free, vegan, and Environmental Working Group (EWG) verified.

While their plastic packaging still leaves a lot to be desired, we appreciate that their additions to our natural skin care routine come from a solar-powered HQ.

My Personal Review of Juice Beauty’s Stem Cellular Peel Spray & Serum

“I tested out several products in their Stem Cellular Anti-Wrinkle Skincare line. These products are designed to be used in tandem with each other. I start with the Peel Spray at the end of the day (not every day, but a few times a week I find works best). The first time I used it, I was honestly shocked at how many dead skin cells it instantly sloughed away. And unlike chemical skin peels, there was zero redness or irritation after. After rinsing that and the dead skin away, I finish with the cooling and soothing serum.”

Clean Girl Skincare Routine AM

Clean girl skincare is all about minimalism, healthy skin, and effortless beauty. The goal? A fresh, dewy glow that looks polished yet natural—without heavy makeup or complicated steps. This simple skincare routine is designed to hydrate, nourish, and protect your skin, using lightweight, non-toxic products that enhance your natural beauty while keeping things eco-friendly.

Morning Clean Girl Skincare Routine

Mornings are all about refreshing, hydrating, and protecting your skin for the day ahead. This lightweight routine gives you that fresh-faced glow with minimal effort.

  1. Cleanser (for refreshing & reseting): A gentle, non-stripping cleanser removes sweat, oil, and impurities from overnight, leaving skin clean and balanced without drying it out. Look for hydrating, sulfate-free cleansers with aloe vera, chamomile, or oat extract for that soft, supple finish.
  2. Toner (hydration boost): A lightweight, alcohol-free toner preps your skin and provides an instant burst of hydration and glow. Choose one with rose water, hyaluronic acid, or witch hazel to refine pores and refresh your complexion.
  3. Serum (glow-boosting treatment): A vitamin C serum is the secret to bright, even-toned skin. This antioxidant-rich step fights dullness, protects against environmental damage, and enhances radiance. Look for stable vitamin C blends with hyaluronic acid for an added moisture boost.
  4. Eye Cream (optional): If you have a little extra time, a lightweight eye cream helps depuff, hydrate, and smooth fine lines. Ingredients like caffeine, peptides, and hyaluronic acid work wonders for a well-rested, wide-awake look.
  5. Moisturizer (hydration without the weight): A light, breathable moisturizer locks in hydration and keeps skin plump, smooth, and soft. Opt for squalene, aloe, or ceramides for that bouncy, healthy glow without heaviness.
  6. Daily Sunscreen (important for long-term glow): The final (and most essential) step—a lightweight, non-toxic SPF. A mineral-based, broad-spectrum sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide shields your skin from UV damage while keeping your complexion even and youthful. Bonus points if it’s tinted for a barely-there, skin-enhancing finish.

Clean Girl Skincare Routine PM

Nighttime Clean Girl Skincare Routine

Evenings are all about cleansing, repairing, and deeply hydrating your skin while you sleep. This minimalist PM routine ensures you wake up with plump, healthy, and refreshed skin—effortlessly.

  1. Makeup Remover (gentle & effective): If you wore sunscreen or minimal makeup during the day, start with a non-toxic, oil-based cleanser or micellar water. This step melts away SPF, dirt, and oil without stripping your skin.
  2. Cleanser (optional): A Fresh Start: If your skin needs a deeper cleanse, follow up with a gentle foaming or hydrating cleanser to remove any lingering impurities.
  3. Face Mask (optional weekly glow boost): A hydrating or purifying face mask 1-2 times a week gives your skin extra nourishment. Choose a clay mask to detox or a moisture-rich mask with hyaluronic acid for intense hydration.
  4. Toner (balance & prep): The same hydrating toner from your AM routine can be used here to replenish moisture and prep the skin for serums.
  5. Serum (repair & rejuvenate): Nighttime is the best time to use a repairing serum like hyaluronic acid (for deep hydration), niacinamide (for brightening), or bakuchiol (a natural retinol alternative for smoothing skin texture).
  6. Lip Balm (optional): Soft & Hydrated Lips: A nourishing lip balm keeps lips hydrated overnight, ensuring they look smooth and healthy by morning.
  7. Eye Cream (optional): Overnight Rejuvenation: A hydrating, peptide-rich eye cream smooths, depuffs, and firms the delicate under-eye area while you sleep.
  8. Moisturizer (lock in hydration): A rich but non-greasy moisturizer seals in all the goodness from your routine. Ingredients like ceramides, jojoba oil, or aloe vera help restore skin while you sleep, so you wake up with a refreshed, dewy complexion.
