About Ministry of Supply

Price Range: $94–$498

Ministry of Supply lives and breathes “workleisure”.

By that, they mean sustainable clothing that’s high performing enough for a daily jog into work, but looks nice enough to make a good impression on your new boss.

They offer everything you need to conquer the office in style, including women’s and men’s sustainable suits, blazers, pants, button-ups, tees, sweaters, and accessories.

The Velocity Merino Suit Jacket is one of their most sustainable options, with 49% merino wool in this partially organic men’s suit.

Ministry of Supply’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

Using a “Scientifically Natural” approach, they blend performance and natural fabrics in their range of sustainable men’s suits.

Their vegan materials include merino wool and semi-synthetics like S.Cafe (made from recycled coffee grounds), viscose fabric, and bio-based polyester derived from corn and sugar cane.

These are combined with materials like GRS-certified recycled polyester, nylon, and sustainable water repellents from non-PFC, silicon-based DWR material.

Unfortunately, while their suits incorporate sustainable fabrics, they all still bear significant portions of virgin synthetics. We’d love to see these get replaced with recycled or biobased alternatives.

Their suit’s fabric mills bear bluesign® and/or OEKO-TEX certification.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Ministry of Supply makes sustainable men’s suits in factories across Japan, Taiwan, China, and the United States. They visit each facility regularly, ensuring they meet their ethical standards.

Their factories are also certified through WRAP and BSCI.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

To ensure their products are built to last, each design undergoes rigorous ASTM and AATCC durability testing.

As a Climate Neutral Certified brand, MoS reduces its carbon footprint through solar-powered mills, recycled materials, sea-freight shipping, and zero-waste production techniques like CO2 waterless dyeing.

You can return unwanted or old products for resale or recycling into new fabric via Shinkong Textiles. You can then buy pre-loved garments through Infinity Resale.

Packaging consists of recycled cardboard and compostable poly bags.

Inclusivity:

For tops and sustainable blazers, men’s sizes range XS-XXXL and women’s XXS-XXXL.

Men’s pants are available 28”–40″ and women’s in sizes 0–18.

Community & charitable giving:

Working with the Mbadika STEM non-profit, Ministry of Supply helps fund an at-home program teaching kids about science-based product development. For Mº Lab Field Kit purchased, they donate one.

They also donate gently worn garments to career-readiness programs through their 1 In, 1 Out Program.

They offer everything you need to be office-ready, including blazers, trousers, tops, safari jackets, military jackets, skirts, and accessories.

For something versatile you can wear daily or as part of your sustainable wedding suit, the Single-Breasted Blazer bucks the sentiment that hemp fabric is only for hippies (not professionals).

DeIONESCU’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

DeIONESCU’s entire catalog of completely organic business suits is made from 100% hemp fabric—that’s it.

Supply chain & labor practices:

DelONESCU works with local artisans and responsible manufacturers to make their ethical suits in Transylvania.

After sourcing the hemp from Ukraine, the spinning, weaving, finishing, and manufacturing are finished locally in Romania.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

DelONESCU keeps their emissions minimal by having their entire supply chain local and using hemp—a “super fiber” chosen for its strength, durability, wearable benefits, longevity, and carbon sequestration.

By selling with Etsy, they’re ensuring any purchase of their vegan organic men’s suits on the platform is shipped through carbon offset means.

Inclusivity:

For each sustainable blazer, women’s sizes run XS-XL and men’s 30R-50R.

Community & charitable giving:

They donate 5% of profits toward giving a quality education to Romanian village school children.

Not only is the Jackie Cool Wool Blazer made from natural or recycled materials, but its fabric mill runs on solar energy and recycles water.

Filippa K’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

Most suits feature either a mulesing-free ethical wool or GOTS-certified organic cotton outer body.

They’re then lined with recycled polyester made from plastic bottles and Enka viscose locally made using Swedish tree pulp.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Clicking on any Filippa K item displays the country (entirely Portugal, in the case of their sustainable suits) and the factory in which it was made.

They are also members of the Fair Wear Foundation and the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, and hold GOTS and OCS certifications.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

Filippa K demonstrates its commitment to circular fashion with a collection of Pre-owned pieces.

By 2023, they’ll take back any Filippa K garment to be remade, resold, or recycled.

By that year, 100% of Filippa K styles will be fully traceable and certified, excluding where certification does not exist.

They also plan to reduce emissions by 50% before achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, and are in the process of switching shipment materials to uncoated FSC-certified paper and recycled boxes.

Inclusivity:

In their ethical suits, UK chest/bust sizes 44–56 are available for men and 30–42 for women.

5. Mantaikotai

Images by Mantaikotai

About Mantaikotai

Price Range: $133–$222

Lithuanian ethical fashion brand Mantaikotai makes some of the best women’s natural fiber suits—and in more colors than the usual black, brown, and gray.

Their eco-friendly clothing catalog includes unique blazers, jumpsuits, skirts, tops, bottoms, and knit garments that can be worn in and out of the office.

The Milan Suit, for example, comes in everything from mustard to forest green. It’s 100% softened Lithuanian linen body provides perfect “laid-back Tech-CEO vibes”.

Mantaikotai’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

Mantaikotai specializes in 100% organic linen suits that are OEKO-TEX certified.

These are their best vegan suits (and their most sustainable), but other styles feature an 80-90% wool and polyester or silk outer with a viscose lining.

Since we’re not 100% sure if their silk is ethically sourced (i.e. recycled or peace silk) and if their viscose is manufactured in a closed loop, we recommend sticking to the lovely linen suits.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Each item is handcrafted and uses materials sourced locally in Vilnius.

Owner Lina does all the sewing, her husband Justas manages the shop, and her mother Laima handles any knitting.

Embodying slow fashion, each item takes around one month to produce—so don’t leave ordering your Honolulu sustainable wedding suit to the last minute!

Inclusivity:

Preset sizes run XS-XL, but they also offer ethical custom suits if you provide measurements.

Eileen Fisher’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Community & charitable giving:

The ethical fashion brand provides grants for Women in Environmental Justice, contributing millions to countless women across the globe.

How We Found The Best Ethical Suits

It used to be challenging to avoid fast fashion 9 to 5, but these ethical business suits make it easy.

But how did these brands ace our interview?

They met most or all of our sustainable and ethical fashion.

Materials:

Finding sustainable fabrics is challenging on its own—but it becomes increasingly difficult when shopping for a well-tailored suit.

We prefer natural fiber suits for women and men because they’re biodegradable and can be grown organically. These include: organic cotton, hemp, wool, linen, and ethically sourced wool or silk.

Semi-synthetics like modal and lyocell fabric are a second choice, though we suggest avoiding viscose if possible because of the harsh chemical processing and non-closed loop process usually used to make it.

Recycled synthetics are better than virgin petrochemicals, but still release microplastics when washed and should be used with a GuppyFriend (unless they must be dry-cleaned).

Supply chain & labor practices:

We look for sustainable fashion brands with a transparent fashion production system that ensure living wages and fair working conditions via third-party manufacturing certifications and audits.

What do we avoid?

Fashion industry brands known for greenwashing and spending more time and money on appearances instead of results.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

Carbon offset programs, localized production, eco-friendly packaging, renewable energy, and regenerative agriculture help us get through the work week knowing we’re doing so in garments associated with fewer emissions and less waste.

Brands that embrace circularity with take-back programs for reuse, recycling, or reselling are another benefit we consider.

Inclusivity:

No one wants to be uncomfortable in the office, so we look for brands with versatile, diverse, and inclusive sustainable clothing across many sizes.

Community & charitable giving:

Brands that give back are always employees of the month, whether it be through supporting women’s empowerment, environmental movements, or other social programs.

Final Thoughts On Sustainable Suits & Blazers

We can’t get rid of stuffy offices or annoying coworkers, but these sustainable blazers and suits will help you feel your best while supporting the environment.

These brands can help you embrace a conscious corporate wardrobe with sustainable fabrics, durable designs, and circular business practices.

Just remember, the easiest way to incorporate sustainable materials like recycled fabrics into your work week is to start slow (fashion) and purchase second hand suits.

If you’re waiting for payday or that long-awaited promotion, seek something affordable in the meantime from online thrift stores.

Unlike that project proposal due on Monday, you don’t have to rush to fix your wardrobe or save the environment—every little bit of effort goes a long way.

Like sharing this list of sustainable men’s suits and women’s blazers with your coworkers, so they can put in their two weeks notice from the fast fashion industry rat race in style.
