7 Organic & Natural Face Washes For The Most Sustainable Skin
We all close our eyes when we wash our face (unless we like a nice soapy sting, that is).
But we shouldn’t close our eyes to all the environmental and health-stinging impacts of face wash.
We need to scrub away more than just oil and dirt from our skin care routine. Rid your skin of impurities with products that don’t contain impurities themselves.
Natural and organic face wash is the skin superhero here and a critical component of any organic skincare routine.
Here are the natural face wash brands we think will leave your pores (and the planet) feeling fresh:
Meow Meow Tweet bans chemicals and acne from the bathroom in one fell swoop with their natural face wash. Good JuJu Herbal makes us feel good about a daily wash with natural, herbal, and vegan ingredients.
The face wash from Mokosh Skincare is 100% certified organic—need we say more?
How did we face up to choosing the best natural face wash brands? Check out our criteria at the end of the article to find out.
And for a more general clean, read our organic body wash guide.

*Note: While not all Etee products are palm oil free, their face wash bars are free of palm oil and its derivatives.
Etee’s Organic and Natural Face Wash
When it comes to our precious skin, sometimes (scratch that: always) simple is best.
For that we have the natural charcoal face wash bar from Etee.
This natural organic face wash is made with 100% plant-based vegan ingredients (85% of which are USDA-certified organic).
The bar swops out those common face wash nasties (think: sulphates, harsh chemicals, and parabens) for activated charcoal, organic butters and oils, and soothing aloe vera.
They have an organic tea tree face wash too, for it’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also made with 85% organic ingredients and includes rhassoul clay, chamomile flowers, and lavender.
Etee is one of our favorite one-stop shops and alternatives to Amazon.
The brand is on a mission to help everyone break up with plastic—and they make the journey so much easier with their kitchen and body care products, gifts, and more.
They may have broken into the plastic-free scene with simple beeswax wraps, but it didn’t stop there. Since their first sale, they’ve put a halt on the production of more than 100 million pieces of single-use plastic.
Because they manufacture products in house, most of their supply chain is under their control and they’re transparent to a (e)tee. While their dish soap is not palm oil free, it is supposedly sustainably sourced, as are all their other ingredients.
They’re also powered by 100% renewable energy through Bulldog Power, use hand methods as much as possible, and— no shocker here—ship their products plastic free, including biodegradable packing tape.
As for charity, they recently donated over 25,000 face masks and give to women’s shelters.
2. GOOD JUJU HERBAL
*Note: Some products (like their facial washes) are vegan but Good Juju is not strictly a vegan brand.
Good JuJu Herbal’s Organic and Natural Face Wash
Good JuJu Herbal gives us good juju with some of the best natural face wash available on the market.
The Chamomile & Clay Facial Soap is the perfect foundation for any good skincare routine.
Vegan-friendly and filled with ingredients like French green clay, coconut oil, and organic chamomile, this soap helps to lock in natural moisture and is suitable for all skin types.
For a deep clean, you can pair it with their detoxifying Rose Clay Geranium Face Mask. Smells like summer in a bottle and is effective at unclogging pores.
Both products are palm oil-free, cruelty-free, and vegan (though Good JuJu soaps may contain locally sourced beeswax).
About Good JuJu Herbal
Good JuJu Herbal is creating a “new standard of natural” after they realized a big secret—that most “natural” products aren’t, in fact, natural.
Being as wary of greenwashing as we are, they created a skincare brand that is truly good for skin and good for the planet.
Good JuJu Herbal wasn’t just started for its customers. Its founder, Judith, discovered she was allergic to 17 chemicals—which meant almost every of commercial product left her in a rash.
So, she found natural compounds that didn’t irritate sensitive skin, sourced them responsibly (often from local businesses), hand made products in a solar-powered workshop, and tested them for at least six weeks on sensitive human skin.
Only after that, does she release anything for purchase.
Good JuJu puts all products in recyclable glass bottles, uses recyclable and compostable shipping materials, and offers a package-free option.
Our stress-induced blemishes disappear instantly when hearing about Judith’s Happy Skin Project, which provides people currently undergoing chemotherapy or at the local YMCA with free or discounted soap.
So far, they’ve donated more than 300 bars of soap—now that’s some good juju!
3. MEOW MEOW TWEET
Meow Meow Tweet’s Organic and Natural Face Ceanser
Cat and dog people alike will appreciate Meow Meow Tweet’s organic face cleanser for acne prone skin.
Their Face Cleanser is a cream cleanser for combo, oily, and blemish-prone skin. Safe for everyday use, it features organic plant oils, witch hazel, and castile soap.
If you want to swap that glass bottle and plastic cap for a more zero waste face wash, try either the Pink Rose Clay or Tea Tree Charcoal facial soap bars.
Both are formulated with various clays, carrier oils, and essential oils to either soothe irritated skin or resolve blemishes.
About Meow Meow Tweet
They’ve actually made it part of their ethos to develop “goods as if they were modern culinary dishes.”
This is why their cruelty-free, vegan, organic / natural, and palm oil-free ingredient list includes things like fair trade cocoa butter, coffee, coconut oil, and sugar.
They know how to tweet Mother Earth right, too. All products are packaged in either glass or post-consumer recycled paper. Return used pumps and spritzers to them to be properly recycled via Terracycle.
Cat got your tongue because of how impressive they are? Just wait, it gets better.
Every month they donate to a range of organizations that align with their values. These include Amazon Watch, the ACLU, Black Lives Matter, Earthjustice, Farm Sanctuary, National Center for Transgender Equality, Planned Parenthood, and more.
Ethique’s Organic and Natural Face Wash
We’d be remiss if we didn’t talk about the natural organic face wash by Ethique.
Wash away dirt, grime, and stress with Ethique’s refreshing soap-free face cleansers, all of which tick every one of our beauty boxes.
Whether you’re looking for natural face wash for men or women, you’ll find what you need in their SuperStar! cleansing balm and zero waste makeup remover, Gingersnap face scrub, or the Bliss Bar natural face wash for dry skin.
With short ingredient lists filled with things like cacao seed butter, kokum butter, and orange peel oil, they safely scrub away the day while leaving your skin’s natural moisture barrier intact.
Their minimal packaging is fully compostable.
Since they sold their first bar nearly a decade ago, they’ve prevented more than nine million plastic bottles from being manufactured. #GiveUpTheBottle isn’t just a catchy hashtag; it’s a promise they’re making good on.
While we’re talking numbers, in the last six months they’ve planted 89,101 trees and offset 471 tons of CO2. No surprise they’re certified carbon neutral.
It’s easy to see how Ethique got their name. The certified B-Corp is much more than ethical manufacturing. Their conscious ingredient sourcing means they are certified vegan, cruelty-free, and palm oil-free.
With their products, we can face the world without petrochemicals, parabens, synthetic fragrance, FD&C dyes, and so much more.
One last thing: They donate 2% of revenue or 20% of profit (whichever is higher each year) to charity.
5. MOKOSH SKINCARE
*Note: Mokosh is almost entirely vegan (including their face wash), except for their Pure Body Balm and the Coconut & Blackcurrant Lip Balm which contain beeswax.
Mokosh Skincare’s Organic and Natural Face Wash
Mokosh? More like mo’ wash! Because that’s what you’ll love to do with their gentle organic face wash.
Wipe off the day with Mokosh’s Makeup Remover & Cleansing Oil. Certified organic, it uses botanical oils to remove makeup, dirt, and impurities, while the sebum leaves the skin hydrated.
They also have a Facial Cleanser, Exfoliator & Mask which is an all natural face wash in convenient powder form.
Mokosh products are made with certified organic, vegan, and palm oil-free ingredients, some of which are also fair trade.
About Mokosh Skincare
With a goal to demystify skincare, medical scientist Marion O’Leary combined her scientific background with the wisdom of nature and Ayurvedic science—and voila, Mokosh was born.
The Australian company uses pure and concentrated ingredients instead of water, emulsifiers, fillers, and preservatives.
They respect nature—both in the natural world and in the skin’s inherent ability to self-regulate.
Mokosh is cruelty-free (certified by Choose Cruelty-Free), organic, doesn’t use palm oil (certified by Orangutan Alliance), and sources fair trade wherever possible.
They also use recyclable paper and glass, and even have a container return scheme for jars if you live in Australia. You can also send back droppers, lids, pumps, etc. and they’ll pay to have it properly recycled via Terracycle.
Mokosh plays an active part in solving climate change and human rights abuse.

Conscious Skincare’s Organic and Natural Face Wash

What makes Conscious Skincare one of the best organic face wash brands?

About Conscious Skincare
Their name really says it all—Conscious Skincare is a Wales-based award-winning organic skin care brand that is, as they say, “lovingly packaged with a clean conscience.”
Founder Rebecca started the company after suffering from dry skin and witnessing her partner experience a reaction to mainstream skincare so severe that it hospitalized him.
Conscious Skincare gives a much-needed break from the “modern toxic world that surrounds us.”
Their natural beauty products (think: moisturizers, shampoo, vegan moisturizer, and more) are made sans chemicals we wouldn’t dare put on our pets, let alone our face or bodies: No parabens, phthalates or SLS here.
They only use ingredients rated “safest” by the Environmental Working Group and have some entire products that are EWG VERIFIED™.
They’re also approved by Cruelty Free International, PETA, and the Vegetarian Society.
7. 100% PURE
*Note: While some products are vegan, 100% Pure is not a strictly vegan skincare brand.

Dry and inflamed skin will find relief in the Lavender Oat Milk Soothing Cleanser, which also contains organic ingredients like black seed oil, echinacea, and lavender.

About 100% Pure
There are three masterminds behind 100% Pure—all of whom are passionate about corporate responsibility, changing the beauty industry for the better, and transparent supply chains.
Ethics is incorporated into everything they do—from sourcing responsible mica to working with fair trade distributors and farmers to shipping with compostable packing peanuts and recyclable materials.
The only thing they haven’t gotten around to yet is eliminating palm oil from their products.
For every purchase, they usually donate a bowl of vegan dog food to an animal shelter in China.
Sustainable dog food is beneficial for animal welfare and the environment; just a single bowl can save 60 square feet of rainforest and up to 2,000 gallons of water.
Currently, 100% Pure has paused (or should we say, pawsed) their typical philanthropic efforts to instead donate hand sanitizer to Californian nonprofits.

HOW WE FOUND THE BEST NATURAL FACE WASH
Making this list meant facing up to the fact that many of us wash away the day with downright dirty face wash ingredients.
That includes sodium lauryl sulfate, fragrance, parabens, mineral oil, propylene glycol, and alcohols.
We don’t know about you, but we’re all about making sure our daily skin care routine doesn’t cause allergies, remove skin’s natural and protective oils, alter our natural hormones, and dry out our skin.
They say “you are what you eat.” Considering the fact that our skin absorbs nearly everything it comes in contact with (around 64% in one study), we’d prefer to feed our skin with organic and natural ingredients.
Using our sustainable and ethical skin care criteria, we focused primarily on organic, natural and plant based ingredients in order to find the best all natural face wash brands, but we also considered the following:
- Non-toxic ingredients
- Vegan (or ethically-sourced animal products like beeswax)
- Cruelty-free: Not tested on animals or sold into China where animal testing is mandatory
- Palm oil free
- Ethical ingredient sourcing policies
- Thoughtful packaging: Ideally, compostable, refillable, or reusable, but at the very least it should be recyclable
