Oh baby!

Let’s talk onesies, bodysuits, and adorable little baby outfits that won’t break the (green) bank or planet.

In other words, let’s talk: affordable organic baby clothes.

Because the textile industry is a little dirty. Like, 8,000-chemicals-used-in-production dirty.

Some of these, particularly toxic dyes and flame retardants, might keep you up at night—even if your baby is sleeping soundly.

Now for some good news.

These are all too easy to keep out of your home by dressing your mini-you in organic baby clothing. And since you’re probably already stressed about the upcoming expenses, we’ve sought out affordable organic baby clothes.

Brands like Burt’s Bees Baby are using 100% organic cotton and recycled buttons. While Finn + Emma put the ‘F’ in fair trade with their fair trade organic baby clothes.

Then there’s Boden who not only support babies with organic clothes but their mamas by providing stable employment and family planning programs for underprivileged women.

If you’re operating on 30 minutes of sleep, head directly to the bottom to see how we found these best-for-baby brands.

About Boden

For the most fashionable babies, Boden’s organic baby clothes are worth a look.

The British brand produces clothes for humans of all sizes and ages, but their aww-inspiring baby clothes caught our eye.

Organic newborn dungarees? Uh…The cuteness!

Whether you’re shopping for a baby boy, girl, or non-gender identifying newborn, Boden’s individual pieces (leggings and onesies), packs, and gift sets can help.

Boden’s Ethical and Sustainability Practices

Boden has a huge selection of baby clothes, but not all are made with organic cotton.

To make it easier for you, they do have a specific section of their website that allows you to shop your values and find 100% organic cotton baby clothes.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Boden’s supply chain involves factories and farmers in many different countries, including China, India, Morocco, Romania, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.

In all, they employ more than 64,000 people from 92 suppliers. Meet some of their makers here

As a member of the Ethical Trade Initiative (ETI), they prioritize responsible sourcing and manufacturing, with a strict position against forced and child labor.

Green business practices:

Boden wants to make baby clothes that will last. They’re obsessed with exceptional quality, fabrics that don’t shrink, and buttons that stay buttoned. They even provide a 365-day quality guarantee (which, let’s be honest, your baby will outgrow long before that time is up).

Both their catalogs and packaging are made with at least 80% recycled material. They’re recyclable, too, as per their zero-to-landfill policy.

All offices employ energy-saving practices like the use of LED lights.

Discounts, free shipping, and more ensure Boden’s prices are affordable. They also have a gender-neutral baby line.

Community & charitable giving:

Boden’s HERproject aims to empower, educate, and support women working in the textile industry.

This project provides nutrition, health, and family planning advice, along with other knowledge and life-improvement tools to women in India, Vietnam, and China.

Founder and owner Penelope is a mom to five, so it’s safe to say she understands the needs that come with having a little one.

She also understands many of the concerns new parents face when they bring a new human into the world.

She prioritizes organic fabrics to alleviate at least one of them.

Once you take a peek at their baby bloomers, rompers, dresses, hats, and more you’ll see why these affordable organic cotton baby girl clothes have garnered the shop thousands of sales (and rave reviews).

About Burt’s Bees Baby

You’ve likely heard of this brand.

Speaking of… where did that zero waste beeswax lip balm go?!

But here we’re talking about products that nourish little ones, not lips.

Burt’s Bees Baby supports parents by giving their little bees a pure start in life. They do so with the use of high-quality organic baby products and a focus on sustainability.

According to them, “Bees are productive, organized, efficient little bugs, that do a lot of good”—and it’s clear this brand wants to do the same.

Wrap up your little cherub in one of Burt’s Bees Baby’s organic cotton onesies, pants, bodysuits, bibs, pajamas, mitts, booties, socks, or even their wearable blanket (“The Beekeeper”)—which is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

You can shop by size or gender.

Don’t forget the eco friendly baby wipes.

Burt’s Bees Baby’s Ethical and Sustainability Practices

The 100% organic cotton used by Burt’s Bees Baby is known for being heavenly soft and delicate on even the most sensitive skin. It’s GOTS certified and comes at surprisingly affordable prices.

In addition to the organic cotton, they use recycled polyester buttons, recycled polyester thread, and eco-friendly dyes and print techniques.

Supply chain & labor practices:

GOTS standards apply to the entire supply chain, all of which protect workers and the environment. ILO-based standards further ensure decent working conditions, no abuse, and no child labor.

We’ll be checking exactly where Burt’s manufactures.

Green business practices:

Only low-impact chemicals and water-conserving techniques are used in manufacturing.

If you’re a first-time customer, you will receive 10% off your purchase.

They also have a gender-neutral baby clothes collection.

Community & charitable giving:

Burt’s Bees Baby gives back in a variety of ways.

They regularly donate products and funds around the world, have volunteer days in their community, and are known to help out with a shore clean-up or urban farm development.

Each sale of their affordable Baby Bee Box starter kit sees a portion donated to families in need through a partnership with Save the Children

About MORI

MORI believes that every moment is worth embracing, and they want to create products that babies and parents want to embrace, too.

This brand uses some of the most sustainable fabrics for their high-quality products, all with your family’s well-being in mind.

They’ve got affordable organic cotton newborn baby clothes (sizes 0-24 months) for daytime and night time and some pretty stinkin’ cute collections (like the Very Hungry Caterpillar).

MORI’s Ethical and Sustainability Practices

GOTS-certified organic cotton is blended with about 70% bamboo viscose.

If we’re honest, bamboo viscose isn’t our favorite fabric. However, MORI’s bamboo is sustainably grown in China and processed with minimal chemicals and water to create a sustainable pulp.

Pajamas and onesies also feature nickel-free poppers.

Supply chain & labor practices:

MORI partners with trusted factories that respect all people involved in the production of their garments.

And before production begins, they require manufacturing partners to prove adherence to their strict code of conduct. Regular audits make sure that commitment continues.

Their headquarters are based in London, but their suppliers come from around the world including two GOTS-certified factories in Turkey (where most of their organic cotton is grown), along with reputable manufacturers in Asia.

Green business practices:

MORI is committed to sustainability and this starts with the design process. They create high-quality and long-lasting baby clothes that can be worn, washed, and passed on again and again.

They also use minimal, recyclable packaging that includes kraft paper, FSC-certified paper, and boxes. They do use plastic poly bags but are exploring biodegradable alternatives.

About Art & Eden

Art & Eden is a registered public benefit enterprise.

Following the spirit of the child, Art & Eden aims to disrupt the systems that oppress and pollute our planet and our hearts.

They use fair business practices, sustainable processes, and Earth and baby-friendly organic and recycled materials.

Their sustainable affordable organic baby clothes for both boys and girls have many different options of onesies, t-shirts, shorts, pants, dresses, and sets.

Search by color, size, or price to find exactly what you want.

Art & Eden’s Ethical and Sustainability Practices

GOTS organic cotton dyed with low-impact dyed is the principal material used in their affordable organic baby clothing. It’s usually blended with a bit of elastane for stretch too.

These GOTS baby clothes are also certified by the Organic Blended Content Standard (OCS).

Supply chain & labor practices:

Art & Eden supports their team members with enjoyable working conditions and fair wages. They only partner with sustainable apparel factories (most of which are in China) that share their vision for a world that’s better for people and our planet.

Supporting artists around the globe, they look high and low to source the unique prints found on their organic baby clothes.

With a priority on transparency, they are happy to share details about their factories and the people that work for them.

Green business practices:

Art & Eden publishes an impressive sustainability report that shares details about all their practices that support healthy babies and a healthy planet.

These include using sustainable farming methods, working with factories that conserve water, and employing other practices to reduce production impact.

They also have a green office policy that incorporates recycling, the use of biodegradable products, and the elimination of styrofoam and plastic cutlery, to name a few.

Everything is sent to customers in recycled packaging with biodegradable poly bags.

Keeping prices affordable is very important to Art & Eden. They take steps to minimize costs without sacrificing originality, quality, the environment and fair wages.

Community & charitable giving:

Art & Eden has a few charitable initiatives, including a Camden Street School mentorship program and a Clothes for Cure initiative. For the latter, a portion of sales go towards nourishing an under-resourced child.

As we have done with many guides including eco friendly toys, we applied the following criteria when assessing brands.

Organic cotton is one of the best materials to give new parents peace of mind. It’s grown without herbicides, pesticides, and other harmful toxins found in conventional cotton.

Other brands supplemented organic cotton with recycled polyester thread and buttons, and the use of nickel and lead-free hardware and non-toxic dyes.

Supply chain and labor practices:

Coddling and cooing over a baby is much better with a clear conscience. That’s why we’re thankful transparency is a big priority for these organic baby brands.

Many were able to demonstrate their commitment to respectful, safe, and fair work conditions through the use of codes of conduct, audits, and maintaining local supply chains.

Green business practices:

Beyond using one of Earth’s favorite materials, brands were playing mother to our planet through practices aimed at reducing energy, water, and plastic consumption.

They also design things with a slightly looser fit for longer wear times. This is huge considering that more than 12 million baby garments end up in landfills every year… just in the US.

Many of these brands are founded/operated by women, or have women making up a significant proportion of their leadership team.

Gender inclusivity is starting to make its way into the world of baby clothes.

From an affordability standpoint, in addition to baseline budget-friendly prices, many brands offer a range of additional discounts or have impressive sales sections.

Community & charitable giving:

Last but not least, your baby can grow up in a world that’s more respectful, fair, and just—thanks in some part to these companies and their commitment to social and environmental justice (via donations, mentorship programs, and more).

Look who’s talking: no not the movie, but these affordable organic baby clothing brands.

By supporting one of these brands, you’re choosing an eco-conscious alternative which will keep your baby cozy and comfortable.

Buying organic baby clothing also happens to show your little one that you’re casting a vote in favor of a happy and habitable home for all.

3 thoughts on “Affordable Organic Baby Clothes: 9 Brands For The Best Snuggles”

  1. Sorry, these are not affordable brands. Affordable would be supermarket prices, i.e. £5 – £10 for a sleepsuit, not £30 as is the case for some of these. I can buy adult clothing for that price.

Another indication that being sustainable is not always cost effective for people who earn less.

    • Hi Kim, I agree, “affordable” is relative in this case unfortunately and it’s so frustrating that it’s taking so long for pricing to come down for more sustainable products. Hopefully as more people (who can afford it) prioritise sustainability and ethics, we’ll see that shift in better pricing for the rest of us.

  2. Awesome list of brands. Adding Lucy Lue Organics in the mix! They make soft, simple, and sustainable baby basics. If you are looking for neutral baby clothing… They’re the best! Check them out on lucylueorganics.com
