Oh baby!

Let’s talk onesies, bodysuits, and adorable sustainable baby clothes that won’t break the bank or our blue planet.

Why?

Because the textile industry is dirtier than that eco-friendly diaper.

Think: 8,000 chemicals, toxic dyes, and flame retardants, which might keep you up at night—even if your baby is sleeping soundly.

Fortunately, these are all too easy to keep out of your home by dressing your mini-you in the best eco-friendly baby clothes we’ve curated. These are made by brands that use responsible fabrics, low-impact dyes, and ethical labor.

In the coming months, we’ll extend these considerations in our new Brand Rating System, which will assess brands based on multiple sustainability-related criteria, including climate change and packaging. You can learn more about it here.

We independently research all featured brands, and we ask them to confirm their claims. In many cases we personally review recommended products. This post contains affiliate links which means we may earn a commission if you buy something. We explain this further in our Terms of Use.

About Hanna Andersson

Hanna Andersson is the “original sustainable kids’ clothing company”.

That means this mama-founded ethical baby brand has been in business since the 80s, dealing out adorable one-piece sleepers, dresses, tops, pants, jumpsuits, and matching family sets.

With an endless selection of adorable designs to choose from, they ease your shopping experience through simple filters to shop by characters, holidays, and the like.

Hanna Andersson’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

All Hanna Andersson garments are made of Danish Green organic cotton that is certified by GOTS and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.

Less prevalent in their inexpensive organic baby clothes, any fleece and outerwear instead contain fabric made from 100% recycled plastic bottles (soon to be GRS-certified).

Supply chain & labor practices:

Hanna Andersson has numerous global partners and suppliers, all of which are internally audited yearly and have been further vetted by third-parties.

They must also agree to a Code of Conduct regarding fair wages, working conditions, and non-discrimination.

Green business practices:

Babies grow in the blink of an eye, so each of their organic sustainable baby clothes contain fold-out cuffs and other room-to-grow features to extend the life of the piece.

Their Hanna-Me-Down philosophy sees clothing built 55% more durable than their competitors so it can be handed down for multiple generations.

By partnering with the Kidizen REWEAR™ Collective, they promote the resale and reuse of their clothing.

Inclusivity:

On a mission to drive a “permanent cultural shift at Hanna […] to prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion”, Hanna has hired a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion consultant.

Anonymous surveys given to all staff members help inform these quarterly training sessions and Affinity Groups connect associates with common interests in awareness.

Though based in London, you can shop their baby clothes online anywhere in the world.

MORI’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

They also use Modal, TENCEL, and, in their swimwear, REPREVE recycled nylon.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Before production begins, MORI requires manufacturing partners to prove adherence to their strict code of conduct. Regular audits ensure that commitment continues.

These partners include two GOTS-certified factories in Turkey (where most of their organic cotton is grown), along with reputable manufacturers in Asia.

Green business practices:

MORI creates high-quality and long-lasting eco-baby clothes that can be worn, washed, and passed on again and again.

They also use minimal, recyclable packaging that includes kraft paper and FSC-certified boxes. They do use plastic poly bags but are exploring biodegradable alternatives.

Community & charitable giving:

MORI promotes passing pre-loved clothing on to children in need through a partnership with local NGO Little Village.

Simply send any unwanted MORI clothing to the brand and they’ll donate it for you.
