16 Organic Baby Products For Your Naturally-Grown Mini-Me

While organic products are better for people of all ages, babies and young children are at higher risk of chemical exposure.

They’re smaller and have thinner, more permeable skin.

And once they develop a curiosity, some mobility and an oral fixation…there’s little us parents can do to keep them safe at all times.

But by choosing organic baby products, we can remove the toxic chemicals found in many clothing, skin care, and even baby toy products.

There are many organic baby products online, but as with anything in this world of greenwashing, not all are as innocent as your baby.

So, what are the best organic baby products?

We’ve rounded up some carefully vetted natural baby products for all areas of newborn parentage—everything from dressing, to sleeping, to playing, to keeping baby’s bottom as smooth as, well…a baby’s bottom.

Head to the end of the article to see everything we considered when giving birth to this list of products.

“Pure organic cotton has it all,” which is why Jazzy Organics uses it exclusively in their entire line. It’s better for our planet, their Turkish cotton farmers, and babies snuggling up for an afternoon nap.

Plus, organic cotton is durable and gets softer over time—meaning you can keep that baby blanket for future children, grandchildren, or pass it along to another set of parents.

For a reusable diaper that’s a little more sturdy and leak-proof (but not completely natural) they make a version that combines hemp with organic charcoal bamboo (that’s hypoallergenic, breathable, and moisture-wicking) and a waterproof PUL outer layer.

About Momgaroo

This USA-based Etsy shop gets to the bottom (literally) of the most necessary of all organic baby care products

As they say, “mother knows best.” Founder-operator Veronica handmakes the diapers with a few assistants and even recruits the help of her kiddos to model them.

When it comes to organic diapers, those made with love by a mother get a big thumbs up in our book.

Esembly’s Organic Diapers

What’s the baby equivalent to organic clothing?

Why, organic diapers and eco friendly baby wipes, of course!

That’s why our favorite material for the clothes we wear is also what’s used to line Esembly’s washable diapers: GOTS-certified organic cotton.

The outside is made with an equally-impressive fabric: recycled plastic bottles that are OEKO-TEX certified and treated with waterproof TPU.

Did we mention how cute these diaper exteriors are?!

You can also choose a biodegradable bamboo viscose diaper liner that can be disposed of after use (but not in the toilet!).

If you remember our deep dive into the compostable vs biodegradable discussion, you’ll know that biodegradable nappies does not equal compostable nappies, so you still can’t toss these liners in the backyard compost pile.

While best to minimize the use of these, for occasional use on-the-go, they’re still better than alternative single-use diapers.

About Esembly

An exploding diaper was the inspiration for Esembly’s reusable diapers. Quite the cringe-worthy image, isn’t it?

Liz Turrigano and a few of her friends are responsible for these leak-proof washable nappies. They’re responsibly manufactured in China and Pakistan and shipped using 100% recycled and recyclable materials.

Not sure you’re up to the challenge of reusables? See how to wash cloth nappies is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Cleaning up stinky diapers and a stinky planet, Esembly even has a unique resell and recycle program to keep diapers out of the landfill.

They’re also a contributor to 1% for the Planet

About Earth Mama

Earth Mama was started by… well, an Earth Mama. Founder, nurse, mother, and “plant lady” Melinda wanted to educate people about the toxicity of everyday products while providing healing herbal alternatives.

Earth Mama got its start in a garage, but now has a facility in Oregon.

The brand is driven by a few core beliefs: “do no harm, nature is our pharmacy, education empowers, honor the body’s ingenuity, and mamas need one another.

Their definition of mama is beautifully inclusive, too, as they proudly include men.

Aside from raising awareness for trans pregnancy, they also do a lot to shed light on the world of post-Partum depression to let mothers know it’s completely natural.

The all natural organic baby products are shipped in BPA-free PET bottles and jars. This is the safest plastic available and is readily recyclable.

This is chosen over glass for safety reasons (someone was cut when a glass jar of nipple butter broke in transit).

Earth Mama’s Organic Bath and Soap

Grab a sustainably-sourced rubber ducky and Earth Mama’s natural baby wash to turn bath time into a breeze.

There are three varieties available: Simply Non-Scents Castile Baby Wash, Calming Lavender Castile Baby Wash, and Sweet Orange Castile Baby Wash. The first two score ONE on EWG’s Skin Deep Cosmetics Database—the safest you can get!

All three are made with certified organic herbs and oils, absent any yucky ingredients like phthalates.

They’re also certified by Oregon Tilth to the NSF/ANSI 305 Standard.

Just be careful around the eyes, because Castile-based soap is not “no tear”.

They do also contain vegetable glycerin which is commonly derived from palm trees. We’ll be double-checking with the brand to see what their stance on palm oil is.

While the packaging is plastic, it is of course BPA-free.

About Earth Mama

We’re having some serious deja vu here, and it’s not because this is the eighth dirty diaper we’ve changed today. It’s because Earth Mama has earned a spot on this list once again.

HOW WE FOUND THE BEST NATURAL BABY PRODUCTS

This list is like a hybrid between sustainable and ethical fashion and raising a zero waste baby, and these are our ABCs for picking out the very best organic options:

Materials:

Organic materials were the main priority here. 99% of the time this means certified organic cotton, although some of our other top eco materials like hemp fabric and TENCEL lyocell were also used.

As your baby is likely to put any and everything in their mouth, we also only looked for organic baby products that were non-toxic, down to the dyes and coating.

For some of the baby body care products, we checked for those that are mostly (preferably entirely) vegan, always cruelty-free, and don’t use palm oil (or as a last resort use certified sustainable palm oil).

Supply chain and labor practices:

Many of these companies are owned by women, or mothers, meaning they’re invested in keeping everything truly ethical. Most products are made with love via super small supply chains and carefully selected partner factories.

Green business practices:

Beyond using the best organic materials, we squeal with excitement over recycled/recyclable shipping, resale and recycling programs, and manufacturing practices that limit chemical use.

Community & charitable giving:

Not only are these natural baby products great for a baby shower, but they gift our planet and local/global communities with purchases that incorporate donations to environmental and social causes.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON NATURAL ORGANIC BABY PRODUCTS

You cut out wine, coffee, you ate healthily, and removed (or at least minimized) exposure to all things potentially toxic to your baby in utero.

You did all that so you could produce an organic baby—why stop short by exposing them to unhealthy products post birth?

In the last decade we’ve had a welcome explosion of natural organic baby products, and we’re thrilled that many of the brands making them do much more than just use organic materials or ingredients.

By supporting these brands you’re investing in not just quality products but also a better world for your little cherub to grow up in.

If you know a new parent who’s trying to wrap their head around diaper duties and all that spit up, feel free to share this guide so they too can give their little one the best.
