15 Organic Baby Products For Your Naturally-Grown Mini-Me

Dawn Cowles

While organic products are better for people of all ages, organic baby products are of special importance.

Babies and young children are smaller and have thinner, more permeable skin, putting them at higher risk of chemical exposure.

And once they develop a curiosity, some mobility, and an oral fixation, there’s little we parents can do to keep them safe at all times.

By choosing natural baby care products, we can remove the toxic chemicals found in many clothing, baby’s skin care, and even baby toy products.

So, what are the best organic baby products

We’ve rounded up some carefully vetted natural baby products for all areas of newborn parentage—everything from dressing to sleeping to playing, to keeping a baby’s bottom as smooth as, well…a baby’s bottom.

Everything we recommend to you on Sustainable Jungle is independently researched and we ask all brands to confirm their claims. To avoid waste, we test products on an as needed basis. This post contains affiliate links. If you buy something through our links, we may earn a small commission. Learn more about why we do this here.

The Best Organic & Natural Baby Products For A Happy, Healthy Baby

Earth Mama’s clean, EWG-approved ingredients tick so many different categories of organic baby products that it’s earned itself a mention in more than one section in this article.

Makemake Organics, a parent-founded natural baby gear brand that believes your baby’s sensitive skin deserves only the best—which they think is pure organic cotton fabric.

A range of toys designed by experts for your child’s developing brain that is thoughtfully crafted using sustainable, organic, and natural materials is on the menu at Lovevery.

The end of the article details everything we considered when giving birth to this list of safe baby products.

Earth Mama’s Organic Baby Toiletries

Price Range: $4–$58

Earth Mama protects babies, parents, and Mother Earth.

Certified organic, non-GMO ingredients and evidence-based formulations have resulted in a range of organic products for baby as gentle as it is diverse.

You’ll find EWG-verified organic diaper balm, face balm, baby lotion, sunscreen, eczema cream, and more.

The Calendula Baby Oil can be used to massage your baby’s body and scalp, moisturize after a bath, or make homemade baby wipes.

The best part is that it only contains three organic ingredients: grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, and calendar flower extract.

None of their Leaping Bunny-certified cruelty-free products contain synthetic preservatives, SLS, artificial fragrance, surfactants, nut oils, lanolin, sulfates, emulsifiers, or parabens.

About Earth Mama

Earth Mama was started by… well, an Earth Mama. Founder, nurse, mother, and “plant lady” Melinda wanted to educate people about the toxicity of everyday products while providing healing herbal alternatives.

Earth Mama got its start in a garage, but now has a facility in Oregon.

The brand is driven by a few core beliefs: “Do no harm, nature is our pharmacy, education empowers, honor the body’s ingenuity, and mamas need one another.”

Their definition of mama is beautifully inclusive, too, as they proudly include men.

The organic baby care products are shipped in BPA-free PET bottles and jars. This is the safest plastic available and is readily recyclable.

Butter Me Up Organics’ Toxic-Free Baby Products

Price Range: $12–$30

From diaper changing to bathtime, keep it toxin-free with Butter Me Up Organics’ range of the best non-toxic baby products.

From organic talc-free baby powder and baby butt spray to bath wash, oil, and bombs, you can butter up every inch of your baby with this brand’s organic ingredients.

The Baby Butt Butter isn’t just delightfully alliterative. It’s also a super safe parenting essential, containing only shea butter, mango butter, avocado oil, olive oil, beeswax, vitamin E, and coconut oil

Soothing diaper rash is just the beginning of what these nourishing oils will do for your baby’s sensitive bottom.

If you can’t decide or are celebrating a friend’s baby, there’s also a Baby Gift Set that includes most of these.

About Butter Me Up Organics

We’ll provide the bread and Butter Me Up Organics can provide everything else, whether for you or your little one.

Biodegradable sunscreen, non-toxic deodorant, and lotions are just a sampling of their comprehensive organic skincare lineup.

Founder Jillian makes everything herself, with love, and without dyes, synthetic ingredients, palm oil, and synthetic fragrances.

All are made with pure, natural, organic, cruelty-free, unrefined, and mostly fair trade ingredients. Most items are also vegan, though some contain organic milk or beeswax.

Butter Me Up Organics is a 100% zero-waste company and ships its natural baby care products using eco-friendly reusable or recyclable packaging.

3. Laguna Herbals

Laguna Herbals’ Healthy Baby Products

Price Range: $12–$50

For skin care that’s sustainable and as smooth as a baby’s bottom, Laguna Herbals’ range of organic baby skin care is laguna-luxury.

With a wide range of natural products for babies like body butter, moisturizer, talc-free baby powder, bum and body balm, and baby oil, their sensitive-skin formulas soothe every part of a baby’s body, nose to toes.

If you aren’t yet sure exactly what you might need, check out the New Momma Organic Baby set that includes everything needed to keep diaper rash at bay and new baby’s skin soft and supple, including body butter, bum balm, baby oil, and natural baby powder.

We especially love that baby powder, which swaps talc and synthetics for certified organic corn starch, arrowroot powder, and real floral botanicals.

Their products are mostly-organic, Leaping Bunny certified cruelty-free, mostly vegan, non-toxic, and proven effective for all skin types.

About Laguna Herbals

Whether shopping for you or mini-you, Laguna Herbals provides quality and tested plant-based ingredients and products developed by herbalists.

The woman-owned company produces locally in California.

The BPA-free plastic packaging isn’t zero waste, but it is 100% recyclable and they try to utilize glass housing and aluminum caps as much as possible.

Baby Hair Care & Bath Soap

4. Earth Mama

Images by Earth Mama

Earth Mama’s Organic Baby Hygiene Products

Price Range: $4–$64

Grab a sustainably-sourced rubber ducky and Earth Mama’s natural products for babies that turn bath time into a breeze.

For your little one’s delicate locks, Earth Mama’s organic baby hair products double as a baby body wash. Castile-based, these organic baby hair products are also free of SLS or synthetic surfactants and synthetic fragrances.

There are three varieties of Castile body wash: Simply Non-Scents, Calming Lavender, and Sweet Orange Castile Baby Wash.

All three are made with Oregon Tilth-certified organic herbs and oils and free from any yucky ingredients like phthalates and sulfates.

The first two score ONE on EWG’s Skin Deep Cosmetics Database—the safest you can get. Testament to its baby-friendly credentials is the fact that it’s the soap of choice for many hospital NICUs.

The Calming Lavender baby shampoo is an essential for parents looking to calm fussy babies during their pre bedtime bath. While the scent of the lavender and calendula extract soothes you and your baby’s mind, the coconut and olive oils will soothe and moisturize their skin.

Just be careful around the eyes, because Castile-based soap is not “no-tear” (which is good, because “tear-free” is the product of chemicals).

About Earth Mama

We’re having some serious deja vu here, and it’s not because this is the eighth dirty diaper we’ve changed today.

It’s because Earth Mama has earned a spot on this list once again.

Many of the products are Leaping Bunny-certified, Oregon Tilth-certified, and FoodChain ID-verified.

While the packaging is plastic, it’s BPA-free and the brand is Plastic Neutral Certified through rePurpose Global.

In comes Bubbsi with a fun solution in the form of the Bubbsi family of clean baby hair products.

About Bubbsi

Sweta, the founder, wanted to create a range of holistic baby products that made bathtime fun and soothing.

She had already discovered the benefits of using coconut oil for soothing her daughter’s eczema, so decided to launch her range of products using the magic ingredient.

These organic baby shampoos are vegan and cruelty-free, but we’re checking out the brand’s sourcing ethics.

Their “For Little Ones” organic baby bath products include a range of naturally-scented baby soaps—like Organic Orangesicle

This dog shaped bar gets its orange color from Moroccan red clay and turmeric, both of which are designed to soothe inflamed baby skin.

We appreciate the short and understandable ingredient lists of these zero waste bars.

They’re all non-GMO, cruelty-free, mostly vegan (except for honey), and contain RSPO-certified palm oil.

About Lemonbuzzzsoap

Freestyle’s Clean Baby Products

Diapers might look innocent, but they’re going to be hugging your little ones’ delicate skin for years.

Knowing it’s important to know what’s in there, Freestyle offers a full list of organic ingredients used in their BambooTek™ eco-friendly diapers.

Made of FSC and Ecocert-certified bamboo pulp (which is far more sustainable than bamboo viscose), they’re free of chlorine, phthalates, and fragrances, but are 88% biodegradable.

Just note that mostly biodegradable nappies do not equal compostable nappies, so you still can’t toss these in the backyard compost pile.

Freestyle World diapers are ultra soft, 55% more absorbent than the leading plant-based diapers, and offer up to 12 hours of leak protection.

About Freestyle

Freestyle came about because the founders wanted diapers that not only made their kids happy but made them happy as parents, too.

They aim to give diapers a new life and collaborate with favorite artists to make sure the diapers look as wonderful as they perform.

Manufacturing takes place in China under their ethical compliance policies.

Freestyle also purchases offsets from Plastic Credit Exchange, meaning the diapers you buy are net plastic negative.

Did you know we Have a Newsletter?

We cover the latest in sustainable living, fashion, zero waste, beauty, travel, finance and more…

How We Found The Best Natural Baby Products

This list is like a hybrid between sustainable and ethical fashion and raising a zero waste baby, and these are our ABCs for picking out the very best natural baby products:

Materials:

Organic and non-toxic materials and ingredients were the main priority here.

For anything fabric, 99% of the time this means certified organic cotton (as you’ll find in these organic blankets), although some of our other top eco materials like hemp fabric and TENCEL™ lyocell were also used in the organic baby items.

As your baby is likely to put any and everything in their mouth, we also only looked for organic products for baby that were non-toxic, down to the eco-friendly dyes and coating.

For baby bath and body care products, we checked for those that are mostly vegan (beeswax being our exception), always cruelty-free, and are palm oil free or use certified sustainable palm oil.

Supply chain and labor practices:

Many of these companies are owned by women, or mothers, meaning they’re invested in keeping everything truly ethical. Most natural baby items are made with love via minimal supply chains and carefully selected partner factories.

Carbon commitments & green practices:

Beyond making 100% natural baby products, we squeal with excitement over recycled/recyclable shipping, resale and recycling programs, carbon offset programs, and manufacturing practices that limit chemical use.

Community & charitable giving:

The best natural baby products aren’t just that make a splash at the baby shower. They’re those that also gift our planet and local/global communities with purchases that incorporate donations to environmental and social causes.

Final Thoughts On Natural & Organic Baby Products

You cut out wine, and coffee, you ate healthily and removed (or at least minimized) exposure to all things potentially toxic to your baby in utero.

You did all that so you could produce an organic baby—why stop short by exposing them to unhealthy products post-birth?

By supporting these safe natural baby products and the brands making them, you’re investing in not just quality products but also a better world for your little cherub to grow up in.

If you know a new parent who’s trying to wrap their head around diaper duties and all that spit up—let alone the terrifying black hole of why natural baby products are important—feel free to share this guide so they can give their little one the best.
