1 Million Women
1 Million Women is both a movement and one of the best sustainability blogs in Australia. Founded in 2009 by former cosmetics manufacturer Natalie Isaacs, the movement revolves around 1 million women and girls who want their voices heard and their future protected.
The blog is a treasure trove of all things sustainability, featuring topics like energy, food, money, news, sharing, shopping, travel, and an under-20s section for budding environmentalists. They also share ways to take action and get involved outside one’s individual life.
Recently, they launched LoveEarth Marketplace, an shopping pseudo-site, which links to responsible products and organizations to support.
Conscious Life & Style
Elizabeth Joy is the eco-conscious creatress behind Conscious Life & Style. Providing “Mindful Media for Thoughtful Living”, their small all-female team tackles a wide variety of topics under the umbrellas of Fashion, Beauty, Lifestyle, Home, and Blogging.
Whether reading their coverage of responsible brands and products or their deep dives on wide-sweeping issues in the world today (like how to be a sustainable fashion activist), you’re sure to learn something relevant and empowering.
For busy days when you don’t have time to sit down and read (like when you’re out exploring one of the cities covered in their responsible travel guides), The Conscious Style Podcast delivers the same comprehensive yet easy-to-digest information.
Zero Waste Home
Bea Johnson is the brilliant mind behind Zero Waste Home, which is not only one of the top sustainability blogs out there but one of the OGs. Does her name sound familiar? There are a few amazing things she’s done that you might recognize her for:
- She pioneered the “trash jar” and was the first to publicly document fitting her entire family’s garbage in a pint-sized container
- She came up with the 5Rs of zero waste: refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rot
- She’s also graced the TED stage and published the zero waste book Zero Waste Home, an Amazon bestseller that’s available in more than 25 languages!
Bea is a force to be reckoned with and her blog has become quite the movement. If you want to get involved, check out the blog for zero waste tips, products, and more.
Moral Fibres
One of the best sustainability blogs to come out of the UK, Moral Fibres wants to remind us that sustainable living can be hip, not just hippie. The blog was started by Wendy, who lives and breathes sustainability. She’s got the degrees, 16 years of work experience, and a book (Fresh Clean Home) to show for it.
Nearly everything under the sun is covered in her blog, with topics ranging from things like ethical clothing brands to plastic-free tea bags to a nuanced look at why plastic-free isn’t always the best option.
Despite its breadth, the blog is categorized into neat sections: life & style, food & drink, home & garden, families, and travel.
Robin Greenfield
Even if you don’t “know” Robin Greenfield, you definitely know Robin Greenfield, the environmental activist who wore every single piece of trash he created for 30 days. When not wearing garbage garb, Robin is acting as “Earth’s messenger for green living” with the believe that that each and every one of us can improve the world in which we live, and his blog provides some tips for doing exactly that.
There he documented his year living off 100% of food he produced himself and his journey in a 100-square-foot tiny house (without a cellphone, car, or socially responsible credit card).
Robin also goes way beyong just sharing general sustainable living tips; he also digs deep into pressing issues and passionately advocates for marginalized groups as encourages social reform and “liberation from dominator culture”. It’s definitely one of the best all-around blogs on sustainability, especially since 100% of the media earnings go to nonprofits!
Luci's Morsels
Luci’s Morsels is all about Stylish + Doable Sustainable Living. This sustainability blog actually started out as a baking blog back during namesake Luci’s grad school years. However, it quickly morphed into “everything women’s lifestyle” with a major sustainable bent.
While there are still plenty of sustainable cooking guides and seasonal recipes to be found, she now covers topics like sustainable living, style, beauty, home decor, and travel.
That said, we’re obsessed with her recipes most of all, which she organizes by season so you support sustainable food systems by using in-season product to guide your meal planning efforts. Not everything is vegan, but there’s definitely a big focus on vegan recipes—like these quinoa stuffed sweet potatoes we are anxiously awaiting this year’s sweet potato harvest to try!
Sustainably Kind Living
For anyone who’s ready to live in a way that’s kinder toward the planet, Sustainably Kind Living is an excellent resource. Founder Danielle Alvarado—mother of two and lover of morning affirmations and saying “I love you” as often as possible—takes a holistic approach, including topics like zero waste guides, sustainable fashion, and eco-friendly family life (sustainability for kids anyone?).
They also have a brand directory that features sustainable and ethical brands that they know and love.
Wasteland Rebel
Shia’s the “hot mess and insubordinate cookie monster that has yet to learn how to shut her trap”—and we’re thankful for it.
Wasteland Rebel brings some much-needed humor and optimism to what’s often doom and gloom. The blog started when she and her now-husband felt trapped and powerless in a world filled with superfluous consumerism and convenience products. A turn of events gave her a year to reclaim control, so the couple moved, started practicing minimalism, and went vegan.
Inspired by this gradual journey, the blog is filled with tips for small and doable changes, all based on Shia’s experiences. She knows that big changes happen this way, even when they’re at #TurtleSpeedPower. If you want simple and sustainability tips, without feeling like you need to move off-grid or fit your trash in a mason jar, dive into her varied topics like books, dental hygiene, housekeeping, kids, makeup, veganism, pregnancy, and more.
Plus, it’s powered completely by renewable energy from their home in Germany.
McKinsey
We know, this is a weird one. No, it’s not one of the best sustainable lifestyle blogs, but it’s an excellent resource nonetheless, especialyl for those who want to dig into larger concepts of sustainable living and get a global take on the issues.
McKinsey is a management consulting firm. In other words, they’re a top advisor on sustainability who wants to transform all industries to reach net-zero by 2050. Their blog provides one of the best looks at how big business is shaping sustainability. Covered topics include circular economy, cities, climate risk, decarbonization, energy, finance, mobility, and natural capital.
As hosts of the Global Sustainability Summit, expect to see many voices represented, including global leaders.
I love the list. i would also add http://www.natural-nook.shop to as my favourite. They are posting really interesting blogs and they also have a quite nice vegan clothing shop too, completely focused on sustainability, it’s really awesome.
Thank you for sharing! I already checked out a few and loved them so far! I am studying environmental planning and want to live more sustainably. This will be such helpful resource!
