9 Organic & Natural Lip Balm Brands Kissing Chapped Lips Goodbye
You know what we hate more than chapped lips?
Chemical-coated chapped lips.
We hate to drop the (lip) balm on you, but unless you’re hydrating with the most natural lip balm, you’re likely lubing your lips with alcohol-based ingredients that, ironically, dry your skin out.
Along with a number of ingredients to avoid as recommended by the American Academy of Dermatology Association (if you couldn’t take our word for it, you can definitely take theirs.)
By now, you’re probably already asking, “How can I moisturize my lips naturally?”
Our lips are sealed at the moment, but keep scrolling to see what natural chapstick brands we pucker up to all day long.
Everything we recommend to you on Sustainable Jungle is independently researched and we ask all brands to confirm their claims. To avoid waste, we test products on an as needed basis. The Best Organic Chapstick For Lusciously Lubed Lips
We’ve got nothing but a great ATTITUDE when wearing their non-toxic SPF lip balms. Not only do they make our lips plump, but they protect them from free radical damage while doing it.
To not use EcoRoots’ natural chapstick alternative would be tree-son. It’s extremely moisturizing, made up of wildcrafted Candelilla wax, shea butter, and all of our favorite oils.
100% Pure organic lip balms are 100% essential for us. Their beeswax lip balms are available in three different flavors and have been granted the Moms-Choice award.
Organic chapstick brands aside, is chapstick non-toxic? For the answer to that—as well as how we chose these brands—pucker up and pop to the bottom.

EcoRoots’ Organic Shea Butter Lip Balm
Price Range: $9
If you’d ask us, “What is the best organic lip balm to use?” we’d say we’re rooting for EcoRoots organic vegan lip balm.
The ultra-hydrating formula puts chapped lips at the mercy of moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, jojoba oil, rosehip seed oil, and olive oil.
The standard variety is available unscented, or with natural strawberry flavor or peppermint essential oil added.
A tinted version is also available, which uses natural colorants for lip balm like iron oxide and lingonberry pigments. We love how the tint is super subtle, even on pale skin like ours. It provides just enough pop, without looking like we’re wearing full-on eco-friendly lipstick.
All of their compostable lip balm containers hold 3x that of conventional products—meaning your ticket to sustainably smooth lips will last three times as long.
The clean beauty and home brand stocks over 50 products at a time, including zero waste deodorant, reusable cotton rounds, and other plastic-free products we personally use and love.
All of their items arrive courtesy of plastic-free shipping and part of your purchase will be given back to the planet per their 1% for the Planet membership.
Also available on Amazon
*Note: Their natural chapsticks contain caprylic triglyceride, a palm oil derivative. ATTITUDE uses only RSPO-certified palm oil suppliers.
ATTITUDE’s Natural Lip Balm SPF 15
Price Range: $5–$6
Our lips have been the center of attention ever since we puckered up to ATTITUDE’s Leaves bars and organic SPF lip balm.
We’re not ones to kiss and tell, but their shea butter and coconut oil lip balm formulas know what they are doing. They are EWG Verified, and PETA vegan and cruelty-free certified, after all.
Beautiful inside and out, each natural chapstick comes courtesy of earth-themed FSC-certified recyclable cardboard packaging.
Their standard lip balms are available unscented or in mint, coconut, or watermelon flavors while their natural lip balm with SPF comes in mango or (our favorite) coconut.
If you opt for their unscented variety, you will receive additional moisturizing benefits from the fatty acids of sweet almond oil.
An ethical attitude is a must when it comes to cleaning up the beauty industry, which is why ATTITUDE adheres strictly to a clean promise backed up by the Environmental Working Group.
Though only the natural body care products can be EWG verified, their cleaning products also follow the same standards.
ATTITUDE uses only sustainably sourced palm oil, never source conflict minerals, make products in-house in their ethical Canadian laboratory, and plant trees for every purchase.
Ethique’s Best Natural Lip Balm For Dry Lips
Price Range: $8.50–$30
What’s unique about Ethique?
Their natural lip balm recipe contains a hydrating blend of moringa, castor, and jojoba oils that leave lips looking lively and luminous.
All while supporting predominantly women-owned farming co-ops in Rwanda, Ghana, and Samoa.
The non-sticky formula is both ethical and effective, providing immediate dry lip relief to 94% of testers!
Non-tinted lip balms are available in various flavors, our personal favorite of which is the Juicy™ pink grapefruit and vanilla flavor, which has the perfect combination of citrusy and sweet.
For a rosy tint, a sugar plum organic peppermint lip balm is available, too.
Ethique sets the bar for what zero waste body care should look like.
The award-winning Certified B Corp has over 40 plastic-free products that contain plant-based, cruelty-free, palm-oil free, and biodegradable ingredients only.
Though the brand itself is not Fair trade certified, many of their organic ingredients are. And those that aren’t officially certified still abide by the same code of ethics.
On top of supporting various environmental conservation organizations around the world, every order plants seedlings in places such as Sri Lanka and Madagascar.
4. 100% Pure
100% Pure Best All-Natural Lip Balm
Price Range: $8–$30
100% Pure is all about that 100% natural lip balm.
You know, the kind of lip balm that’s made strictly with organic ingredients like calendula extract, beeswax, and coconut oil.
All three of their lip natural balm flavors boast 5-star ratings, so you can’t go wrong with any choice (mint, cherry, or lysine herb.) Though, it’s important to note their lysine flavor helps alleviate cold sores.
We like to keep things classic and minty fresh, so the peppermint organic lip balm flavor is our favorite. It goes on silky smooth and lasts longer than conventional chapsticks between the reapplication.
If you want a product that works for other parts of the skin too, check out the Fruit Pigmented Lip & Cheek Tint. The two-in-one organic tinted lip balm and zero waste blush is one of our personal favorites
About 100% Pure
100% Pure is more than just a lip balm brand; they’re one of the best sustainable makeup brands all-around.
Purely because they provide incredible non-toxic cosmetic and skincare products that are packed with skin-loving botanicals like sweet almond oil and argan oil.
Healthy skin products that give back to the global community, might we add.
Every order supplies one bowl of dog food for sheltered animals, or one tree to a community in need.
So if you’re on the hunt for natural skincare products with a cause, we’d say you’ve found your vice.

About Tap Tap Organics
Let’s just say, Tap Tap Organics should be named Clap Clap Organics after the outstanding ovation we give them for their luxury skincare products.
Small but mighty, the skincare brand stocks high-performance remedies for head-to-toe hydration.
Their high-quality plant-based ingredients reign from lush landscapes of Latin America. Notably, they are the only skincare line to feature wild-harvested, virgin coconut oil from Costa Rica ( which is incredibly more effective than its refined counterpart.)

Why Choose Natural & Organic Lip Balm?
Is organic lip balm better?
Well, depends on if you’re a fan of the tastes of parabens, petroleum, propylene glycol, and synthetic fragrances.
Petroleum in particular is one of the primary ingredients in conventional lip balm. Now, petroleum comes from oil (not something we want near our lips).
But aside from toxicity concerns and linked health problems, it’s also not very effective.
Petrolatum merely acts as a film that seals in moisture. It does not have its own moisturizing properties, so it’s a short-sighted solution that really only masks the problem.
Really, we’re not trying to be shady here, but to us it’s a no-brainer.
Anything you put on your lips ends up in your mouth or absorbed by the skin. In fact, studies show you may have ingested four tubes of lip balm each year.
This wouldn’t be alarming if your lip balm is filled with already edible ingredients like natural plant-oils and butters.
In other words, the reward is not worth the risk when there are plenty of non-toxic lip balm alternatives out there.
How We Chose The Best Organic Lip Balm
When deciding which is the safest lip balm, we referred to our ethical and sustainable beauty guidelines.
- Non-toxic: Organic ingredients are naturally non-toxic. Rather than ingredients to avoid in skincare, we look for natural ingredients like essential oils (peppermint oil, anyone?), sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, olive oil, and shea and cocoa butters, to name a few.
- Vegan & cruelty-free: More often than not, lip balm contains beeswax. We aren’t against it, but we understand that some people are, which is why we provide vegan lip balm options. However, animal testing IS something we are always heavily against. We don’t support products tested on animals or sold in countries where testing is mandatory.
- Palm oil free: Palm oil derivatives are commonly used in lip balm. Some ingredients to look out for include glycerin, cetyl alcohol, and some sources of Vitamin E.
- Ethical sourcing: Moisturized lips should not come at the cost of forced or exploitative labor. Fair trade certifications and transparent practices help us determine which brands to support.
- Thoughtful Packaging: Plastic-free and zero waste, please! Or, if there is plastic involved, there should be serious initiatives to reduce and recycle properly.
Final Thoughts On Natural Lip Balm
Lips and lip balms are like best friends that will be together for the rest of their lives.
Just like no one wants flaky lips, no one wants a flaky friend—or a fake friend, for that matter (ahem chemical-filled lip balm, we’re looking at you.)
Luckily, you don’t have to put up with either. Like Shawn Mendes, these natural lip balms can treat you better.
It’s time to give that toxic chapstick the silent lip treatment once and for all and make space in your life for companions that nourish you.
Feel free to introduce our moisturizing amigos to your friend group and let us know what other organic lip balm recipes we should adopt into ours!
