7 Best Vegan And Cruelty Free Concealers For Clean Skin & Conscience
It’s no secret that big brand beauty is good at concealing unsustainable practices.
Namely, animal testing.
It’s also no secret that many of their products also contain animal byproducts and other toxic ingredients.
It’s time we brush these unethical options aside and use cruelty free and vegan concealers that not only have you covered but also our furry friends.
In this search for the best cruelty free concealers, we applied our usual sustainable beauty criteria, which you can read more about below the brand list.
Special shoutouts go to Dab Herb (for non-mineral options), Plant Makeup for their ultra natural composition and River Organics (for mineralized options). All three tick all our sustainable boxes and they offer totally zero waste concealers too!

1. DAB HERB MAKEUP
About Dab Herb’s Organic Vegan Concealer
Dab Herb makes sustainable concealer from plant pigments and petal and herb oils.
Almost every ingredient is certified organic, unrefined, and food grade.
This includes classic creams, powders, and their newest addition, liquid concealers.
Other than a “tiny bit” of iron oxide for pigmentation, they don’t even use minerals. No titanium dioxide, mica (a mineral silicate used to provide better coverage but can also be inflammatory… and doesn’t exactly have the best human rights backstory), wax, or stearic acid.
Being highly non-comedogenic, it’s designed for all manner of blemishes, acne aside, including large pores, veins, scars, sun spots, and under eye circles.
It not only hides the short term, but anecdotal reviews say it aids healing of various skin conditions thanks to it’s antioxidant properties.
Non-nano zinc oxide adds a slight SPF boost and the tea tree oil provides antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties.
One of the best vegan, cruelty-free concealer brands around!
Standard sizes come in a 4.2 ml glass pot with an aluminum lid, which Dab Herb accepts for refills, ideal for those living a zero waste lifestyle. If you’re unsure of your correct skin tone for your first order, you can get a small sample so ensure you get the best color for your complexion.
About Dab Herb
Dab Herb is a “Nature to Nurture” beauty and skincare company that believes “beauty and self-care are inseparable from sustainability, transparency, and wellness”.
Like Dirty Hippie, Dab Herb also found a place on our best zero waste beauty brands list.
What started as small sustainable makeup made just for their founder Crissy’s personal use, developed into an advocate for green beauty standards.
For every product, they use only food-grade, certified organic, cruelty-free, and vegan ingredients. Many of these herb and plant oils help to heal the skin, not just disguise it.
Dab Herb’s zero waste products are all palm oil free (including free of palm oil derivatives). Ingredients are sourced from fair trade certified farmers and suppliers.
Dab ships their plastic free concealers and other products and re-use their own suppliers’ shipping materials for larger orders. Back in the office, printing is on recycled materials only.
Dab Herb also support “MADE IN THE FREE WORLD” which focuses on developing and implementing high impact solutions to human trafficking by working with the most effective partners to rescue and care for victims worldwide.

As for packaging, they use purely recycled and compostable materials (right down to the labels which Jes draws herself). Shipping materials follow suit.
3. RIVER ORGANICS
About River Organics Soft Vegan Cream Concealer
River Organics eco friendly concealer is made of a blend of certified organic oils, including apricot kernel oil, mornings seed oil, camellia seed oil, almond oil, and sunflower seed oil.
It may seem counter-intuitive but these oils (which are absorbed by the skin) help prevent the overproduction of our own sebum.
Rosemary extract provides a soothing scent and the zinc oxide gives this vegan concealer with SPF a bit of protection when you’re outdoors. The formula includes both titanium dioxide and iron oxide.
There’s also no palm oil or palm oil derivatives in the ingredients for these cruelty free concealers as confirmed with River Organics.
Choose between 8 different tints, that also carry pink and yellow undertones to balance some skin’s natural tone.
As an added bonus, this one also qualifies as a zero waste concealer! Packaged in a paperboard pot with a biodegradable sugarcane label.
About River Organics
River Organics focuses on “hydrating plant beauty” and organic oil-based skin care.
Based in North Carolina, USA, this small batch skincare company is run by husband and wife duo Corinne and Fabien. Fabien once worked as a chemist for Chanel skincare products in France.
During that time, they did a ton of traveling. Their time in Italy and the Middle East specifically inspired their fascination with oil-based moisturizing, one of the most effective and gentle methods of moisturizing.
Using only organic palm oil-free plant-based oils (which they also sell individually), they craft vegan zero waste lip balm, cheek tint, brow fillers, bronzers and highlighters, and face oils all designed to nourish your skin.

It’s raspberry seed oil gives it sun protective properties. The addition of waterproofing Candelilla wax, it’s designed for lasting, all day wear.

Because of all these factors, this is one of the best cruelty free under eye concealers that we found. While they currently only offer two shades more are in the works.
For those who prefer to use cruelty free powder foundation as concealer, they also make two lines of natural foundations.
About Rainwater Botanicals
Rainwater Botanicals began in 1999 with a simple, natural multi-purpose healing solution to fill what they saw as a large gap in the natural market.
By 2004, their salve was so popular they expanded into making a larger line of handmade products. Which they still create in the kitchen and test on themselves.
They have three core philosophies: natural ingredients, no animal testing and sustainability, focusing on local, organic and sustainable ingredients, sourced ethically.
They’ve recently removed all palm oil from their products and all of which are suitable for vegans (except their healing salve, which contains local beeswax).
They support North Beach Paws (a no kill animal shelter) and some local charities for kids.
They are focusing on creating an entirely zero waste range which will include paperboard, glass or metal packaging and they plan to offer refills in compostable bags, where possible.
They’ve switched to 100% recycled paper mailers for all small packages and use biodegradable vegetable starch peanuts.
For larger and heavier orders, they ship using recycled and recyclable/reusable boxes wherever possible. They also print their labels on recycled paper and their office recycles, re-uses and composts what they can.
5. VYANA PLANT BEAUTY
About Vyana Plant Beauty’s Liquid Vegan Concealer
Vyana Plant Beauty make a super creamy, long lasting cruelty free concealer which is especially suited to acne-sufferers, thanks to additional antibacterial and anti-microbial properties from lavender essential oil.
Since it’s base is shea butter rather than an oil, it’s moisturizing without being greasy. It has non nano zinc oxide and titanium dioxide for a basic SPF.
Use it as a spot solution, all round liquid cruelty free foundation cover-up, or under eye brightener!
For rosacea sufferers and those with generally rosy complexions, pair this concealer with their vegan color correcting anti-redness primer powder.
Don’t worry, it doesn’t stay green once it’s one!
These concealers do contain cetyl alcohol (which can be a common palm oil derivative), but Vyana has confirmed with us their cetyl alcohol is palm oil free.
About Vyana Plant Beauty
Vyana Plant Beauty is a Swedish luxury vegan and cruelty-free make-up company, founded in 2013. Their product creation goal is to harness “all the richness the earth has to offer”.
This extends to skincare items, like a grain exfoliating facial cleanser powder, zero waste makeup, and more. You can find everything from elegantly designed repellants to funky natural lipsticks in fabulously sparkly tubes (but not plastic free…).
Most products, including their eco friendly concealer, come in glass pots but have plastic lids and sifters (for powders).
Vyana also offer a refill program which means that all products can be refiled with a 25% discount. All powder products refills are send in biodegradable bags and there is a plan to replace these with compostable cello bags.
Between that and their compostable envelopes and corn starch packing peanuts (which fully dissolve in water), they’re now a fully zero waste and vegan makeup brand.
6. DIRTY HIPPIE COSMETICS
*Note: Dirty Hippie has announced that one of their suppliers no longer guarantees certain ingredients to be palm oil free. This directly affects their concealers.
About Dirty Hippie Mineral Concealer
Dirty Hippie probably makes some of the best cruelty free mineral concealer around, with the added bonus that it’s also a zero waste concealer.
This cream provides medium to full coverage designed to last all day. Unlike many concealers, these are Titanium Dioxide-free. Instead they’re comprised of almost entirely organic ingredients making this one of the few near wholly organic concealers too.
The light-reflective Sericite Mica brightens under eye circles while fractionated coconut and sweet almond oils make this concealer have an incredibly low comedogenic factor.
This simply refers to the degree at which oils and other cosmetic products clog pores and cause pimples.
It has a sun protection factor of 15 thanks to the non-nano zinc oxide (for more info on SPF and non-nano zinc oxide check out our zero waste sunscreen article) making this the perfect cruelty free foundation with SPF.
And since minimalist consumerism is more eco friendly, you can use it as foundation too.
It comes in three shades: moonlit (light), sun kissed (medium), and goddess (deep tanned). For those with complexions that fall somewhere in between, the shades are easily blendable to customize some colors.
Choose between 2g sample sizes or 15g regular sizes, both packaged in reusable tin pots. For Aussies only, you can get this pot refilled; the air emissions for offering this recycling program overseas would likely be a bit counterproductive.
About Dirty Hippie
Dirty Hippie makes all kinds of hand-made, vegan make-up, hair, and skin products. Everything is cruelty-free, vegan, and almost 100% organic.
Every single product is also completely zero waste, with compostable recycled cardboard tubes or reusable tin and glass pot packaging.
Even the labels are printed with vegetable ink.
Zero waste products aside, the company itself is based in Australia’s premiere zero waste community.
This inspires Dirty Hippie to use collected rainwater, grow many of their own ingredients (locally sourcing nor buying the others from Fair Trade channels) and operating from a totally solar powered HQ.
They currently function at a 50% carbon offset and donate to many different charities. These range and revolve from animal rescues to suicide prevention and more.
Currently, a portion of your purchase will go The Stroke Foundation Australia.
The one current slight downside is that their supplier of Olive and Coconut oils (aka Cetearyl and Sorbitan olivate, respectively) no longer guarantees they are palm oil free. Dirty Hippie is moving to a different 100% Palm Oil Free supplier.
This not only affects their concealers but also the Hydrating Hempseed and Red Raspberry Facial Primer moisturizing creams, mascaras, and eye liners.
7. OPALE- ESSENCE
*Note: We have attempted to confirm policies directly with this brand with no response to date
About Opale-Essence Matte Foundation Cruelty Free Concealer Stick
For Canadians and lighter skin tones, Opale-Essence’s vegan and cruelty free concealer sticks are a wonderfully portable solution to natural bb cream.
An 8g stick packaged in a compostable cardboard tube, just toss it in your purse for unexpected pimples! They provide medium coverage with a silky application and a speedy absorption rate.
As for ingredients, this concealer is mostly natural with an organic jojoba and Abyssinian seed oil base.
However it does contain trace amounts of silica and possibly ethical mica (we have asked Opale Essence to confirm their sourcing policies). They use no fragrances or talc-based drying agents, and Vitamin E is the only preservative.
They make no mention of their palm oil policy, but this product does contain coconut oil. We’ve attempted to confirm this with them but with no luck.
As of now, only light to medium shades are available (in Porcelain, Light, and Medium) though they will hopefully expand to more shades soon.
Opale-Essence started in 2012 and remains a small, made-by-hand cosmetics company based in Quebec, Canada. Ingredients are sourced locally when possible and imported when necessary.
They specialize in lipsticks, foundation, blush, and rich-colored natural eyeshadows in just about every unique color imaginable.
They have tons of loyal fans and fantastic reviews, averaging 5-stars!
FINDING THE BEST VEGAN AND CRUELTY FREE CONCEALER BRANDS
If this is your first time visiting, our approach to sustainable beauty is to look for brands and products that are:
- palm oil free
- have ethical ingredient sourcing policies and
- use thoughtful packaging (zero waste, ideally)
While we don’t always get full coverage for these criteria, we try to get as flawless as possible.
For this particular list, we prioritized products that are both vegan and cruelty-free (so everything here must at least have two two ticks).
As is the case with reviewing a lot of these beauty products, like vegan and cruelty-free hair products, it’s important to remember that satisfying both criteria is not a given.
A product can contain animal byproducts without being tested on animals, and vice versa.
FINAL THOUGHTS ON CRUELTY FREE & VEGAN CONCEALER BRANDS
Let’s face the facts: we all get pimples.
There’s no shame in wanting to cover up those bumps and blemishes. But what we shouldn’t have to cover up is the unethical practices that go into making our makeup.
These vegan and cruelty free concealers prove that you can get full coverage in a transparent package. Clean skin doesn’t have to come at a cost to animals or the planet.
So let’s pop those sustainable concealers in our vegan handbags and support brands who are changing the status quo.
