Gone are the days when fashion was a duality. Gender Neutral clothing brands who care as much about the planet as they do about the different identities of all the people on it are changing the status quo.
Fashion often falls short of the inclusivity mark, “let’s squeeze every person into XS-L” and while the number of plus-size clothing brands is increasing, inclusivity means more than size.
Thankfully, more brands are seeing the need for general neutral clothing for trans and non-binary folk, offering styles that transcend men’s and women’s styles, cuts, and sizing so that anyone can wear them, no matter where on the spectrum they fall. While you’ll still find options that may be considered femme or masculine, they can be worn by any body.
And beyond the style and aesthetic, we prioritize gender-fluid clothing brands that also prioritize the use of sustainable materials, ethical labor, sourcing, and diversity and inclusion, to name a few considerations.
In the next few months, we’ll be launching our new Brand Rating System, which will evaluate brands not just against these criteria but a slew of others, including resource efficiency and water and chemical use. Visit our explainer to learn more.
We independently research all featured brands and we ask them to confirm their claims. In many cases we personally review recommended products. This post contains affiliate links which means we may earn a commission if you buy something. Learn more here.
The Best Non-Binary Clothing Brands For Every Body
KINdom believes we’re all kin, regardless of identity. Their androgynous clothing collection asks us to “put human back in humanity”.
tomboyx’s eco-fluid activewear and underwear range is full of fun prints and plus sizes. After testing, we’re impressed with their quality and comfort, especially the smooth waistband, which provides a snug fit without digging in.
Non-binary-owned and operated Plant Faced offers a vegan streetwear collection of gender-neutral clothing featuring organic cotton and screen printed in the UK using water-based inks. Of the several pieces we own, the Kale ‘Em With Kindness top is a favorite thanks to the stretchy fit (and the fact we get loads of compliments when wearing it)!

Kindom
About KINdom
Price Range: $62–$154
KINdom was started with the idea of building a true KINdom, where all of us are connected and make up the world we live in.
Their Gender-Free & Upcycled collection is what we’re particularly striking a balance with right now. Shop one-of-a-kind upcycled handpainted shirts, embroidered convertible shirts (yep, you read that right), vintage tees, over-dyed shirts, and more.
Make a statement with the “eco not ego” Upcycled Embroidered 2-way Shirt. There’s no need to roll your sleeves up; you can just unbutton and remove them if you prefer to keep it breezy.
KINdom’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices
Materials:
KINdom uses natural, reclaimed, recycled, and indigenous fabrics combined with compostable cotton labels. These include organic cotton, bamboo textiles, rPET textiles (made from recycled plastic bottles), reclaimed deadstock, and some occasional rayon or viscose blends.
Supply chain & labor practices:
KINdom’s goals align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, like supporting marginalized communities, using closed-loop production processes, and working with fair-trade suppliers. In pursuit of these, they work with organizations to form a circular economy, only work with third-party certified partners in China and India, and preserve diverse cultures by supporting indigenous artisans in the Philippines.
Carbon commitments & green practices:
KINdom uses a veggie-based bioplastic bag for packing and storage and a 100% recycled mailer for shipping.
Inclusivity:
Sizing runs XS-XXL.
Community & charitable giving:
KINdom partners with various charitable organizations, including Save The Children, Black Farmer Fund, and Autism Speaks.
TomboyX
About tomboyX
Price Range: $20–$125
tomboyx has got your back (or your butt?) with a range of unisex sustainable underwear, loungewear, sleepwear, swimwear, tees & tanks, socks, and sustainable activewear for everyone.
This Seattle-based unisex clothing brand doesn’t use tomboy in the traditional gender-role sense. It’s not limited to girls who prefer dirt to dollhouses. In their eyes, a tomboy is anyone who does their own thing and dresses in any way they want.
We love their reversible swimwear collection of tops, shorts, board shorts, and uni suits made from 80% recycled polyester from plastic bottles. Each piece is fully reversible, so you can switch up your look in seconds.
tomboyx’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices
Materials:
Materials in their gender-neutral clothing line include TENCEL™ Modal, OEKO-TEX certified organic cotton, OEKO-TEX certified cotton (non-organic), recycled nylon, and recycled polyester. For most of their underwear, this is blended with 5% spandex.
Supply chain & labor practices:
tomboyx is a Certified B Corp. They work closely with women-owned ethical factories in the USA, Canada, and China, most of which are certified by the Fair Labor Association and WRAP.
Inclusivity:
With XS to 6X sizes, they’re an excellent source for plus-size non-binary fashion.
Community & charitable giving:
tomboyx is passionate about the #humanagenda, meaning they’re passionate about giving back to LGBTQ, women’s rights, and social justice organizations.
My Personal Review of TomboyX’s Lightweight Rainbow Hipsters:
“TomboyX undies are comfy and well-made, and the hipster cut is just right—not too high or low on my waist. I also really appreciate the smooth waistband, which feels slightly silky and never digs into my skin. They’re definitely on the snug side, though. I’m usually a small, but I went with XS based on the size chart. They’re still comfy, but next time, I’ll stick to my regular size for a little extra room.”

Plant Faced
About Plant Faced
Price Range: $12–$116

Plant Faced Clothing’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices
Materials:
Sustainable materials, such as GOTS-certified cotton and recycled polyester (from plastic bottle waste) make up more than 75% of their collection. Designs are printed in the UK using 100% water-based inks.
Supply chain & labor practices:
Garments are made by (mostly) Fair Wear or WRAP-certified manufacturing partners in Bangladesh, Turkey, and Ukraine.
Carbon commitments & green practices:
Plant Face is switching to recycled materials for their woven labels, and orders are shipped in recycled paper mailers and boxes printed with water-based inks. Garments are made in small batches to avoid waste.
Inclusivity:
They’re also a non-binary owned and operated brand, and offer sizes XS–3XL.
Community & charitable giving:
For every item sold, a tree is planted via a partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects. They raise awareness and donate to several organizations, including WIRES (Australian Wildlife Rescue Organisation) and Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation.
My Personal Review of Plant Faced’s Kale ‘Em With Kindness Crop Top:
“I came for the pun, but I stayed for the comfort. I absolutely love how soft and cozy the organic cotton feels against my skin. I especially love how the added stretch from recycled fabrics in the crop top helps it hug the figure in a way that both flatters and keeps it snugly in place. No accidental flashing if I move too quickly or a gust of wind comes up in this! And I do live in Wyoming, so wind is pretty much a given.
I also own the unisex Classic Crew Sweater and, again, love how soft and snuggly the fabric feels, even after several washes. It’s well-made, so I can see it being my go-to, cozy layer for years to come.”

As big fans of hemp fabric, we’re naturally drawn to the Hemp Big Pocket Hoodie, which features extra-large front pockets and a deadstock 1970s zipper closure—how’s that for attention to sustainable detail!
Visit their Portland store for experiential learning exhibits and installations based on their current collection’s theme. Alternatively, keep an eye out for one of their pop-up shops in major US cities near you.
