Update as of February 2026: Toki Mats has relocated to a more energy-efficient warehouse featuring LED lighting on motion sensors, improved insulation, and a newer HVAC system. The brand has expanded its product range to include a wooden playpen and wooden mirror, both independently safety tested to ensure they’re free from harmful chemicals in line with existing product standards. No changes have been made to suppliers, materials, certifications, or overall sustainability approach.

Toki Mats predominantly make non-toxic childrens’ playmats, play cubes, bean bags, play couches and play tents. Their mats are their key focus and feature OEKO-TEX-certified natural dunlop latex foam or GOLS-certified organic latex filling. Fillings are all flame retardant-free, self-ventilating, anti-bacterial, non-allergenic (latex allergies aside), and biodegradable. There are a number of removable cover options that are made from either 100% GOTS-organic cotton, vegan leather (OEKO-TEX-certified water based microfiber PU leather), or OEKO-TEX-certified bamboo jersey.

All products are produced in factories with respected ethical standards or audits in place. Toki Mats products are highly rated customers and the brand further stands out for their conservation partnerships, extensive safety certifications, and product testing. Awarded our best overall rating of “Disrupting”, the brand is currently one of the top-rated brands within our ‘Kids Toys & Products’ category.

About Toki Mats

Toki Mats was started by mom-turned-entrepreneur Eli Yonas after her time living in Israel, where non-toxic nursery rugs and playmats were easier to come by. After she and her family relocated to California, Eli was on maternity leave when she knew she had to launch Toki Mats. Shocked that she couldn’t find anything like them in the US, Eli made it her mission to create the perfect childrens’ playmats with the best quality, safety, and kid-friendly design magic. The brand’s namesake “Toki” comes from “matoki,” the Hebrew word for sweetheart—a loving moniker Eli gives her own little ones.

Rating Summary

Nature & Animals

Sustainable materials used include GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic cotton and GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) certified organic latex. Other materials featured are OEKO-TEX certified water-based microfiber PU leather, TPU Laminate and bamboo jersey. Materials we would deem as unsustainable are used in a small range of products including viscose (beanbags), spandex (beanbags), polyester (tents) and microbeads (beanbags). No water use targets are set; however, action has been taken to reduce water use via GOTS and OCS (Organic Cotton Standard) supplier certifications. Toki Mats are in the early stages of assessing their supply chain’s impact on biodiversity and deforestation. No chemical related tracking or targets are in place, however chemical use is managed under supplier GOTS and OCS certifications, along with the brand’s BSCI certification’s top rating “A” in “Protection of the Environment.” Packaging includes organic cotton drawstring duster bags and recyclable cardboard boxes. Less sustainable poly bags are also used. No formal waste tracking is made along the supply chain, but action has been taken to reduce factory defect waste through a partnership with Good Buy Gear to sell returned or unsellable stock at a discounted rate, and by using fabric scraps from larger items to make support pillows and cubes. Additional action to promote better end of life outcomes include a community group for customers to buy and sell preloved products. While no targets are set for climate impact, some action has been taken via renewable solar energy at some supplier facilities. The brand includes energy efficiency considerations when choosing suppliers and plans production schedules during off-peak hours. The brand is a 100% vegan brand with no animal welfare concerns.

Play Mat

Review: We own Toki’s bean bag and cotton play mat. My daughter absolutely loves the floral print and was so pleasantly surprised at how comfy the mat was to lounge on while doing puzzles, reading, playing with dolls, coloring—the works! The washable (and changeable) covers make for an easy bedroom update, and with the cotton lining, I don’t fear 1 trillion little beads spilling onto the floor.

Bean Bag

Toki’s bean bag is lightweight, and comfy. My husband and I take care to ensure our kiddos sleep on the safest materials, and now her play place is no different. Clearly quality products, so I expect both this and the play mat to live with us for years—and as my nephews and nieces are born and grow up, I think they’ll make the perfect pass-me-downs or gifts.
