First, what is a sustainable device?
Sustainable technology follows two concepts: devices designed to mitigate or prevent environmental problems and technology produced with sustainability at the forefront of its design.
Past sustainable materials, we looked for eco gadgets and eco-friendly appliances that serve a purpose, like helping you save energy, reduce water usage, or compost food scraps.
And because sustainable gadgets are still a somewhat new realm, not everything we round satisfies all our ideal criteria, but these are the things we considered:
Materials:
We chose devices made from eco-friendly materials, like recycled plastic and metal, ethically sourced wood, bioplastics, plant-based materials, and fair mined metals.
Because recyclability is such a major issue with technology, we want materials that are either biodegradable or with a majority of components that can be recycled into new devices.
The longer these precious materials can stay in use, the better, which is why we also seek brands designing timeless tech (so much as that’s possible in this fast-paced world, anyway). No more planned obsolescence, please!
