A Note From Our Founders

Reflecting on all we've achieved so far, we're deeply grateful for the support of our community. Right from the start, we have been intentional with our impact goals. We firmly believe in our mission of preserving traditional crafts, championing sustainable design, and using our business as a force for good. But of course, we couldn’t do it without you. Thank you for being on this journey with us.

What's New for 2022

We received recognition as one of the outstanding black-owned industry-leading brands by B Corporation in 2022.

We implemented a new methodology to assess the impact of both existing and potential brand partners across three categories: governance and disclosure practices, nurturing people, nurturing cultural heritage, and protecting the planet. Through a comprehensive 74-question assessment aimed at gaining holistic insights into our partners' impact journey, we evaluate a diverse range of metrics, such as certifications, knowledge and screening of direct and indirect suppliers, minimum wage policies, diversity, support to local nonprofits, and energy sources/consumption.

We donated 10% of Giving Tuesday sales + 1% of its annual revenue to support change-maker organizations, including Women's Earth Alliance, Planetair | UNISFERA, and People Over Plastic.

Buying Less But Better Matters

By purchasing one ecoBirdy chair, you’ve prevented 6.4 lbs of discarded plastic toys from ending up in landfills and oceans.

By purchasing from the Goodee x Tensira Collaboration, you’ve contributed to the development of a sustainable livelihood for the indigo dyeing craft communities in the West-African Republic of Guinea. You’ve also supported eco-responsible mode of consumption by choosing products made with 100% hand-spun, hand-woven, and hand-dyed cotton, as well as kapok — a biodegradable, renewable, and non-toxic natural fiber sourced from the kapok tree's seed pods.

By purchasing a Baba Tree product, you’ve empowered 250 artisans to practice a time-honored weaving technique using elephant grass and their very own “rhythm and flow”.

With each purchase of a Little Sun light, you provide children with an additional 1,200 hours of study time after dark throughout the lifespan of the lamp.

Looking Ahead

We have a unique opportunity to reshape how we shop by promoting mindful purchases. As we expand our vision to a wider audience and strive to minimize our environmental impact, here's what we set out to do this year:

1. 80% of brand partners to sign GOODEE's Environmental Policy

2. Introduce personalized coaching for new brand partners to improve their GOODEE impact score

3. In our 2022 report, we aimed for 40% representation of BIPOC-owned brand partners and suppliers. We have currently achieved 37% representation and are committed to reaching our goal.
